Rifle

Postby stitch » Sat Oct 29, 2005 8:25 am

If you were only going to have one rifle the rest of you life, what would it be? I just sold my .270 to a friend that had been wanting it (I really didn't like it).......going to get me a new one. I have my eyes on a Browning 7MM WSM Bolt action. I'm a duck hunter, so this will probably be the only rifle I have for "everything"....thoughts??????

I think any of the new WSM's would be ok. My preference for a gun now that I have one is a .308 Flat enough to shoot pretty much dead on out to 250 yards holding in the middle of the animal, and not a lot of recoil. Talk about accurate!!!!! Killed animals out to 230+ yards on a couple of occasions. Bullets are very easy to come by and don't cost too much. A couple of guys in our club swear by their 25-06's. I have never shot one, so I can't say much about them.
It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

I own a Browning .308 A-Bolt. I sold a Ruger synthetic .300WM, but it kicked too damn hard for all around use. I second the call for a flat shooting .308.

Only 1 rifle you've got to be kidding....

Well, my "do all rifle" is my 300 WSM A-Bolt...plenty of gun for Elk, and other large hooved game, not enough recoil to bother me for whitetail....

Course, I've got a 25-06 and a 257 Roberts, if I wasn't gonna hunt anything large (Elk/Moose) I wouldn't neet anything larger than the 25-06 with good bullets....

I have a Browonig 7 Mag. Sweet gun. Carrying it is like my wife following me around in the woods. But that biatch is heavy. I have been trying to find a light .308 or possibly a .243

I've got a 7mm Mag, that I used to shoot. Several years ago, I bought a Browning A-bolt in 7mm-08, "for my wife". When I pickup a rifle, which isn't very often anymore, that's the one I take. I love it, very little recoil, and it's extremely accurate.

.308

Postby QUACK HUNTER » Mon Oct 31, 2005 10:01 am

.308, is the way to go, I have five of them, 2 are still in the box, you can load from 90 grains to 220 grains bullets, that should cover anything with fur on it.

i like the 7mm rem. mag., enough knockdown for big game, and doesn't tear the meat up. Never heard any negetive remarks on this caliber.

308, 7mm-08', 25-06. All great calibers. Buy any one in a quality rifle and you won't be dissapointed.

I really like the 257 roberts if your not going to be shooting anything bigger than deer.

7x57

Postby QUACK HUNTER » Wed Nov 02, 2005 3:18 pm

If you like a 257 Roberts, try a 7x57, 145 gr. at 2600 fps. works great for deer out to 350 yards
