I ordered my dad a new A391 Extrema in synthetic camo, after he confiscated my SBE this past duck hunting season. Well the gun finally arrived and I put it together. I noticed that there was no swivels on the gun for a sling. Then I find in a little plastic package with a screw in stock swivel for stock and this front swivel piece that fits under the cap on the forarm. I look at the stock and think where am I suppose to screw in this piece. I go to the manual for instructions. NO INSTRUCTIONS for the installation of the stock swivel or front swivel. So I call Beretta USA and talk with a customer service rep. He is helpful and informative. He tells me that the mold for the stock WAS SUPPOSE to have a dimple to show the exact location for drilling a pilot hole and then screwing in the stock swivel but they forgot the dimple. HE then proceeds to instruct me from an Italian e-mail they had just recently translated to english on how to take the butt plate off and measure from the inside of the stock to the reinforced area where the stock swivel is to be screwed in, take that measurement and mark it on the outside of the stock and proceed with drilling a pilot hole. He did fax me the translated e-mail instructions (very short 7 line instructions). He then tells me that the stock is designed such that it is one length and cannot be cut and that the length of pull can not be adjusted PERIOD. He said they were trying to tell new potential extrema owners of the one length stock in case it was to long for someone or they were hunting with thick clothes.
So to sum it up - I just purchased a $1,000 gun for which there are no swivels pre attached, not only are they not attached but there are no instructions for drilling into a synthetic stock to attach the stock swivel, not only are there no instructions, but then a Beretta customer service rep informs me there is problem with the stock mold and I will have to disasemble the stock and measure from the inside. He then tells me the stock is one length and the length of pull can not be changed, so he hopes it is not to long especially if your hunting with thick heavy clothes.
Guys I heard nothing but great things about Beretta's and purchased this gun based on those recommendations. I am beginning to think that was a mistake. So caution if you want a sling you going to have drill and attach it yourself and if you are short or have short arms, you may want to test the extrema before you buy it cause you can't shorten the length of pull.
Cuss a benelli if you like but they had an adequate manual and I never had to drill into a $1000 gun to attach a swivel.

I am sorry to hear of that. I think it's probably a fine gun they just goofed on the small stuff. Take it to a gun shop and let them install the swivels...

I put the swivels on mine. It's got a plate that will make the swivel go in a little off, but no big deal. Just take your time.
That gun does not compare to the SBE. It is much heavier. Mine would hang up on 3.5" shells. Your are right about the stock. I'm 5'11" the stock is alittle long for winter clothes. For 6'plus the stock should be fine. I do think it will be a fine shot gun in a couple of years if they make the mods.

I wouldnt get to disapointed just yet. wait until you shoot the gun and you will be happy again. I have owned one since last November and love it! Due to the lack of ducks this year I only ran a case of shells through it. but they were all 3.5" and never one single hang. One one particularly slow day I played with it a bit (the gun that is) putting all three shells sizes in the gun un various order trying to make it hang without any luck. I to had the same problem with my sling, but with about 20 mins. and the proper tools that will be quickly behind you.

I mounted my swivels with ease, and have had no problems with the stock being too long, As far as the 3.5 shells mine only accepts the 3" (390). But all in all it is the best shotgun I have.

Harley,
We are talking about hunting shotguns, Not assalt weapons.
How you been doing? Sorry you did not get to the gathering in Tunica. I guess you had other stuff going on, like raiding crack houses.
If you have any picture of Redhead and Tunicadu back on Brooks road let us see them.
Keep yo head down and be careful!!!!!!!!!

I have never seen the inside of the stock of an Extrema, but I know you can shorten the stock of an SBE up to 3/4". The SBE is supposed to be a "don't change the LOP" gun, too. If the Extrema is anything like the SBE stock there should be a boss or extrusion inside to hold the recoil pad screws. If so, I would think that you could shorten it, you would just have to leave enough of the boss to hold the screws. You will probably have to sand down the recoil pad sides to get it flush if you go more than about 1/2" though.
