box

Postby dukdawgn » Fri Oct 21, 2005 7:46 am

summer or winter, mine is great..... a summer example: myself and harwell went over to train with sheppard at his vet's farm; it was 98 degrees at noon, we were at the local burger hut for lunch, my truck was parked out in the sun, my two dogs were in the fiberlite with the fans running...... both were sound asleep, enjoying the cool climate.

in the hottest part of summer, and the box sitting out in the sun, you can put your hand on the fiberlite box, and its not even hot. my aluminum box I had would scold your hand if you did that...... I've never had a stainless box before, but I'm sure at that price their bound to handle the heat just as well.

If I had 2100 dollars I would have bought a Deerskin, but then again, if I had justin's money, I'd burn mine

justin, what do you bet I can sell mine for what I got in it??? ha, ha.
(for those who do not know, I won mine at Languille River's raffle).

Heritage is a wooden frame plywood deal with and Aluminum skin over the top. it is good in the winter for sure. Not so good in the summer but it is satisfactory....I had the walls of mine insulated and I had extra vents put in the sides and back and i had top storage. I liked it...it was fine...I would recomend that to anyone for a starter.

I had them make it taller and the doors bigger to accomodate labs but is no extra charge...i think I paid 450 for my two hole...Year later sold it for 300-350? Can't remember. I stole my 3 hole Deerskin for 1900 from a guy in Texas...Mine is like Gators too with the storage underneath for wingers and whatever. I didn't want water storage because I didn't want to haul the weight around when I didn't need it.

AND, call me crazy, but I am a little ANAL, but water tanks I'm not so sure about. What keeps them from getting funky in there? I know pros do it all year, every day but I like to be able to clean my water storage. I can't know it's clean if I can't see in there.

Travis laughs at me every day when I rinse and clean my dogs water bowls before I freshen their water while their on the truck.

if I wanted a water tank I think it would be much cheaper to go with an AG sprayer type deal. Then you could have a sprayer to spray the dogs off if running in nasty water and spay the boxes out if you needed to. This way you could clean it out a and see inside b/c they have large lids on top. I have also kicked around the idea of a PVC deal with a pressurized sprayer attached. Both of these would be 10 times cheaper that a stainless tank attached to a box.

On the feather lite does the storage compartment lock and also do the dog doors lock? Does any one have the two dog with the top storage, if so is it big enough for a 70 pounder to stay in easily.

Here is a poor mans alternative to a water storage tank. http://www.lcsupply.com/store/flashcart.cfm?section=280&hash=1839

I made mine and I love using it.

you could put one of them 150#er's in the fiberlite box, they gots plenty 'o room.

the fans I got are from a marine store, bilge fans for a boat..... just cut a hole, and wired it up. took about 30 minutes.

Do the fiberlites have fans? Thier website does not mention them.

Careful giving your dogs too much room in a truck box.......

Too much room=too much room to slide around in.

Thing I didn't like about fiberlite is you can clean them very easily and the dogs can't really see out of those little vents...How would you like being stuck in box with no windows????

The bottom of the fiberlite box is sort of counter-sunk, and I drilled a small circle in each corner, so washing out the box is easy. A stout water house will blast out any loose dog hair.

A small dog would slide around in a bigger fiberlite, but I've got a tall dog, plus you can always put a mat in the floor of the box.

Star generally lays down all the time she's not out, so with her, not being able to see is like permission to take a nap..... I guess a wired dog that's loud in a box would feel a little phobic in a fiberlite compared to a windowed box like a deerskin, so I guess that depends more on the nature of the dog that's in the box.
