what gas oil ratio do you use???
I just bought a 1973 Mercury 20hp twin and am courious as to what gas oil mixture to use. I am currently looking for a owners manual to find out what the manufacture recomends and thought I would get ya'lls opinion.

nearly all mercs are 50 to 1. I had one a little newer than yours...I think it was a 76 model and it was 50 to 1. I checked into a new one a couple of years ago and it was 50 to 1 also...sounds like they like that ratio.

16 oz in 6 gallons of gas. Premium is best for that motor.

I hope the first tank of 32 to 1 does not hurt it. Thanks for the input. I guess it will smoke a little and the plugs might need cleaning until I run it out. The motor has been setting up for almost two years.

I always run mine heavy. 32:1 will smoke and it may be harder to crank when cold. My motor is old and I run it at about 40:1 simply because plugs are a heck of a lot cheaper than having to sleave the power head when the walls get scored by the pistons. It cranks no problem even in the coldest weather. Protect the compression and run it heavy. Better safe than sorry.
