Where's the Crappie with all this high water?

Postby Stano » Tue Mar 26, 2002 8:01 pm

Man it sure is confusing with all the water in the local lakes With the water so high what do the crappie .....I would think they would follow the creeks and spawn in places closer to the deeper water but man theres so much water and cover like looking for a needle in a haystack. Any ideas?

Put your hoop nets with 10 foot leads in the R/O at Tunica while river is rising. they will fill up about every three days.

Alright Stano, I was going to give you some advise, but to tell the truth I haven't been after them this year myself. I was going to suggest Flower Lake back in the borrow pits.

Come on, give it up. I am planning on being sick Friday!

exactly...and its suppose to be steady. that much water should help put water in traditional (looking) crappie spawn areas. and with it not fluctuating too much that should let the fish get into some kind of a pattern.

Been so long since I have been to flower lake i would be lost. But head alittle east down 315 should put ya on some fish go shallow.

30 feet at Tunica don't do anything put put them fishys so far back in the brush you gonna need some dynomite just like the rest of the lakes round here. What would you describe as traditional spawning grounds with the water so high there is a lot more places for them to spawn Heck one ocean to another I don't see tunica(would prefer 12 feet vs 30) beeing any easier to findem that Sardis Enid or Arkabutla. I have been looking for info on what crappie do with these kind of conditions I know the bass like to run shallow into the flooded fields where the water is clear but I dunno if crappie do the same..... Do they go as shallow as posible do they go shallow as posible closer to deep water?

Crappie at Tunica will be scattered all throught the trees. Very difficult to catch during this time. Hoop net will work--back when I use to commercial fish. Just couldn't carry em home.--sigh--
