It was one of those days that reminds you why you get up @ 3:30 a.m. to do this stuff. Got in and got setup well before daylight and everything worked out. Soon as the first hint of daylight came around, I had three birds gobbling on the roost less than 75 yds. away! More hens than I could count were also not far off, so about fly down time I was covered up in turkeys. At one point I counted 18 birds out in front of me, and I couldnt move to count the ones I could hear behind me! For about 45 minutes I got to watch all three gobblers struttin around competing for the hens, two of'em would strut for about 30 seconds then tie up fightin while the third took the opportunity to round up as many hens as possible. To make a already long story shorter all this went on for quite some time about 60-75 yds away from me then the crowd started moving in the opposite direction of me. Luckily one old loud mouth hen kept yelping after all the others had hushed up. I started imitating her every noise and fooled her in to coming looking for me, and luck was with me today about 50 yds behind her were all three gobblers! The one in front appeared to be the biggest and the rest is history!!! Gotta love it!

Congratulations Harley!
My hunting buddy and I also had a great weekend. For the first time in the last three years I missed opening morning (had a 8o'clock class). My buddy went without me and called at 7:15 saying he had killed one at 6:05. 9" beard 1" spurs. Sunday morning we got up and tried a place that we had luck on 2 years ago but did not hear a turkey last year. At 5:15 we were walking down the road and heard an owl hoot. A gobbler blasted off about 75 yards from us on the edge of a field. We set up on him and he gobbled a few more times then flew into the field. He walked within 25 yards. He was a big bird with a full fan, but his beard was a little short for me. We let him walk off and went and set up on another bird that had been gobbling all morning. Jim yelped a few times and 3 turkeys gobbled a couple hudred yards away. We waited then called again and one of the birds gobbled and had closed alot of ground. 15 minutes later we hadn't heard anything so we were discussing getting up when Jim said "I think I hear a bird drumming" Sure enough about 45 yards in front of my a bird was in full strut. I moved my gun into position and was aimed on his head when another bird came in from behind him in full strut. The second bird was bigger so when he got within about 40 yards I greeted him with a big wad of #4's. 10"beard 1" and 1 1/16" spurs. All together we heard 7 different gobblers and called in 3. Helluva morning. Helluva a weekend.
P.S. sorry about the long story

HARLEY, seen something on the 6 oclock news about someone slipping in the zoo night before last and killing a rare and endangered longbeard. Something about a Shelby Co. Tact vehicle seen parked in the area. Whats the deal on that? Or should I be quiet? Well if I had slipped in the zoo you can bet I wouldnt be shootin no birds! I'd be trying to get rid of them things that breed repeatedly and escape into our lower rent sections of the city!

Yeah Judge I was up your way when I killed this one. Same place we talked about before over off Indian creek rd. Our birds seem to be fairly active early with a good bit of gobbling, but it dont last long as all of the hens are still "fresh" right now and it dont take them ol'gobblers long to get to'em. Have you noticed a increase in the population in your area? I would bet we have three times the number of birds this year from just about five years ago.
