Been catching a few at the res in Jackson. They have been about 10' in 17' of water. The ones that bite are big. Caught one that went 3 lbs. It won't be long until it gets right.

hey bill, lily got in my boat and pulled all the wiring loose under the dash. i am about a month beind on getting started with my fishing.

Dutch Dog you got more patience than me, it would only take 2 fish before I would switch over.

Not enough water in the spillway at the rez and cant seem to find them in Pelahatchie Bay! You can catch a limit of crappie just big enough to check your grease at the spillway, nothing really worth your time.

I believe that if someone caught say...5 fish on minnows before I had even gotten a bite on a jig that I would have already switched over. I certainly wouldn't have let him catch 35 to my ZERO. Sounds a little "fishy" to me.

Dutchdog, as a former guide I can tell you fisherman are a quirkier lot than duck hunters. There are some fisherman (I'm NOT one of them) that believe fishing with live bait is "cheating". I have taken people who were PAYING me to put them on fish, had plenty of minnows in the boat, and they refused to use them. They would sit there dipping thier favorite jigs and complaining that the fish weren't biting, even though I had several rods baited with minnows and was reeling and rebaiting as fast as I could. I had one guy who refused to pay me after a day that I caught over 20 crappie, big slabs too, on minnows and I even handed him the rod every time I had one on, but he wouldn't take it. Stubborn SOB
Maybe that was the reason above.
I won't use a twirly, but I will catch and use live bait ANYTIME. IF that's cheating, than I'm a cheater. I could never tell the difference in the taste of a fish caught on artificial or live bait.

Captn T, you aint got too worry about me going crappie fishing without minnows. If they bite jigs thats fine too. Now if a man is having a better day with a jig than others are with minnows techinically (to those people you reffered to who thought it was cheating) that would be cheating wouldn't. Whether they are caught with a jig or minnow they all taste the same.

went to lakeview yesterday. 1 black fella had 4 that he had caught up the runout. he had been there all day. we looked for fish in all and i mean ALL depths of water. we found them on structure in 20-22', but they had lockjaw. the fish were about 19' deep just over the structure (logs most likely). I can't wait for april to get here and the spawn to be in full swing everywhere.

After about 5 hours of looking, we finally located some fish in the La. marsh Saturday. 3' in 6' of water, but could not get them to bite. We tried every trick we knew, except we had nothing live. It was still windy, but the water looked real good where we were. Good thing was we didn't have to clean all those slimy fish when we got home! Anyway, my 8 hours on the water was about the best thing I've experienced since January.

As of this past Tuesday crappie fishing has been fair at Eagle Lake. It picked up this past weekend. All big ones too, just not the quantity everybody hopes for, but nonetheless a good time.
