Information from Jackson area, please read !!!

I need some information from the Jackson area.

My son-in-law's parents live in Mandeville, LA, and they got out Friday before the storm. However, there is an elderly couple living next door to them that has no family and nowhere to go and they elected to stay with the house in Mandeville. The man is ill with infazima (sp?) and is on oxygen. Nobody here has been able to contact these people since the storm hit and everyone is very worried about them

My son-in-law's parents are planning on going down to Mandeville tomorrow (Thur) and carry a couple of generators to operate the oxygen machine and some fans for this elderly couple to try to help them get through this ordeal. They are also planning to take as much bottled water as possible and some food as well as some extra gas for the generators. They are planning to come back to north MS either Thursday night or early Friday morning, they are not staying there for long.

Now.........my question.............what is the last point south of Jackson that has electricity so that they can get gas?

They will be going in my Nissan Titan and it will get about 400 miles on a tank when not loaded. With the load they will be carrying and the road conditions they are likely to encounter I am advising him not to count on more than 300 miles on a tank, or maybe even less. We would like to know the sourthern most point he can count on getting gas going down and coming back. Can anybody answer with hard, factual information????

They are lined up at every pump in Jackson about 100 cars each. Probably run out of gas before the last car gets any.

Area is un accessable...Maybe the Highway Patrol has new information, but, Highway 49 is closed to south bound traffic as of last night. Prayers sent

call the Mississippi Highway Patrol. They might be better off accessing the area from the west. Via Little Rock or even through Texas.

SOuth of Jackson, I think the Stuckeys at Gallman had power yesterday at 8 pm.. The line stretched out of the parking lot and under the overpass and up the off ramp also.

That is it. Period. You see the dilemma. Just for you, in a Nissan, you might can make it there and back. If not, fill the bed up with jugs and and fill the jugs. Thanks for trying to help though.

People need it. The most critical need is generastors, with gas, gas, ice, and batteries for flashlights or lanterns at night or for use in side of building in the day. People need drinking water. I repeat, people need drinking water. If they can get to water, the need a way to boil it.

Meeka, my son-in-law plans to carry the neighbor folks in Mandeville two generators, gas for them, some food (canned or precooked), lots of bottled water, and a couple of fans. I'll advise him about the need for ice.

I see that the stations in Jackson may be hard pressed to keep up with the demand for gas from people trying to get back to areas south, that is a bummer!!! My Titan might be able to get to LA and back with one tank, but then it might not!!! He may need to carry extra gas for the truck.

The son-in-law plans to call the MS Highway Patrol Thursday morning before they make the move to leave. I hope they can get there!! This elderly couple has noone else to help them. I told son-in-law, if the couple will leave now, we can put them up for a week or two, if needed, since his family is with him and his house is full. We'll see.

If anybody is heading down this way to help people in or around the New Orleans area, please let me know as I am in the Baton Rouge area. I have at the very least a couch and some AC along with plenty of food.

I was very suprised this morning that gas prices were actually very slightly lower than a few days ago (for example I paid $2.49 per gallon before the storm and it is now $2.48 in places). Seems to be enough gas over this way for now.

Last night florence and richland had power, richland was had about 3 pumps going, bout a 2 hour wait. Florence was just letting emergency personal gas up. I dont believe there is any power south of florence on 49, also clinton has power and is pumping gas as of this morning when i was there.
