well, just returned from freer texas. I shot 3 hogs and 1 javelina. came down with a kidney stone on the morning of the 2nd day and spent the rest of the day in the hospital. I was able to get 2 of the hogs and the javelina. the 3rd hog i shot at 230 yds and couldn't mark EXACTLY where it was standing in the road. we searched for about 10 minutes until we ran upon a rattler after dark...so we quit looking and was going to look the next morning with better light...that was not to be due to the kidney stone. anyway we had a real good time and saw tons and tons of deer, javelina and hogs. I got the 1st hog with a gun on video and i got the javelina with a muzzle loader on video as well. we did kill 2 rattlers both around 6 ft long and 13 rattles on each.

DD, I went to Texas two years ago on a deer hunt and got 4 rattlers all were 46-48 in and 11-12 rattlers. These were diamond backs, is that what ya'll were seeing?
I have one of the snakes on tape, it gets pretty hairy for a moment. At least until I get the 12ga whirled around, I do believe that snake would have made 55 in but I did not include the splat.

yep western diamondbacks. these were both close to 6 ft long. saw 1 that was very big, but he got into the brush before we could get to him and we weren't chasing him in that junk.

hey dutch i just got back from hog hunting near LLano, Texas a few weeks ago. took a small boar and let a huge hog get away. that is a ton a fun and those little fellas eat real good as well. saw too many deer to even count, at least a hundred, in three days and picked up several nice sheds and recent skulls with nice racks. no snakes though. it was pretty cool at night when i was there. anyways it was a blast. thats the second time i been to texas to hunt hogs. i got a buddy that is from robinson, just south of waco, and he hooks me up good on the hogs. wish i had a place near here though.

yep they do taste good. ate some sunday night. I cut up the backstraps into small "chops" sprinkled them with a little garlic powder and cavenders and fried em in a skillet. I have to say that i didn't see the deer this time like i usually do. I only saw probably 15 deer, but they were ALL bucks. I saw 1 deer in the 170+ class and the rest were 140-150 class. I told the hunting manager about that big deer and he knew exactly which one i was talking about and he was the one that told me that they figured he was only a 3 1/2 yr old deer and was in the 170's. they plan on taking him next year or the year after. It sure is different down there.

yes it is different. the place we were on is about 7000 acres. it wasnt managed in terms of size for the deer, but we did see lots of nice racks and lots of small ones as well.

I was in Texas in December deer hunting. Killed my buck the first afternoon then rode around the next day with the rancher and shot does out the window of the truck. Don't worry, it was perfectly legal out there. The rancher had over 100 doe damage permits and was trying to get me to fill some of them. We then started shooting hogs. After I shot two with my rifle, I began shooting them with my .357 pistol. Snuck up on one pretty good one and blasted him from about 30 feet. When I shot, about 5 gobblers gobbled at the sound. Turkeys were everywhere.
