I was at both of those shows and I am honestly surprised panic is even trying to play in MS again. I saw 'em twice in Starkville and both times the cops were pretty rough on the peace lovin hippy fans. It wasn't cool at all man...

Dog's Eye wrote:speakn' of potatoes and apples, I caught, or tried to catch a panic show in Tuscaloosa back in the early days. We were going on scalp tickets when we got there. No luck, no tickets.... then all of a sudden we luck up on a couple of tickets cheap.....

The concert was being held in a metal storage shed, could have held maybe 3k people, concrete floors, bring your cooler type thing... so we make it up to the door and the fire marshalls are blocking the entrance. No more people allowed inside. Someone inside opened the door to come out with some equipment and the crowd bum rushed the marshall. We were in the pack and running hard... When I went through the door my feet weren't touching the ground, the pressure on my shoulders against the mob was holding me up.... inside was a mad house, a mob of people with coolers full of beer, and grass firing up... lights go down, they come out and do a warm up set... ten to fifteen minutes.... this was going to be a good show.. .then the fire marshall pulls the plug and cancels the event... the crowd was so angry they started pelting the stage with full cans of beer!.... we stayed and watched for about ten minutes... the beer cans were destroying the place... someone got the marshall when he came out on stage and he had to be helped off. We left and the cans were still flying....

Later the next week we called ticket master and got refunds on the tickets we bought from a scalp, we made about twenty bucks off of em, that covered the gas to get there.

I was at that show. Your description is right on the money.

Saw several shows in Starkville too...the cops s*ck.

Panic isnt what they once were. THe sound is different for obvious reasons (new guitarist). They were there best in bars or small arenas. Their sound isn't spectacular in larger venues.

Many good times in deed. Probably wouldnt travel more than a mile nowadays to see them

Would have to disagree with the post about their sound not being as good in large venues as it was when they were a bar band. Being a long time Panic fan, first show in Rumors Bar and Grill in Cleveland in '92, I have traveled the US seeing them play. I have seen them play in front of 300 people and 100,000 people. Their sound has changed but it still sounds good. Why would they play MS well for obvious reasons. Their guitar player for starters is from MS, their keyboardist is from MS via New York, JB's wife is from Jackson, and the biggest factor is the fan base! Do yourself a favor and if you are within reasonable driving distance of a show and have been a fan check them out it is still a great show!

Disagreeing thats what makes it FUN  ! Rebel Duck I hear ya. It was a good time back in the day but I'm sure surprised/glad I never ended up in any trouble! I still make it to several shows a year these days but I travel a little different now days. The wife don't go to much for the camping out and what not I used to do. We stay in hotels with in walking distance, eat at nice places, and she finds time for a nap in there somehow. Its still a great time and I can't wait for October to get here!

Whats everyone's favorite show. Mine was in 96 (i think) when the Kudzu Kings opened for em in Mempfrica on Mud Island. Or the free show in starkpatch in the early 90's.

To many to pick a favorite but some of my favorite places are Red Rocks, New Orleans Halloween shows, Mud Island, and The Fox in Atlanta.

I haven't been to see Panic since I was in college.

That show in 1995 or 1996 in Tuscaloosa was out of this world.

First time I ever saw them was in like 1993 at a music festival that I went to for the heck of it. Cause I didn't have anything better to do.

They opened for 311 that night, played for about an hour and 1/2 and flat out rocked the house with a good mix of stuff off the Space Wrangler CD and some awesome covers. Wind Cries Mary was one of them.

I kept asking people, who the heck is this band. They were awesome.

They peaked about 1997-98 It's been down hill ever since.

Wish some of you other guys that like the band could had been around for those years.

Dave Mathews was actually good back then too. Before he sold out.

Boys I've never seen a Panic show in Mississippi...been to 10 or so shows in Ga. though...starting with the Cherry Blossom Festival in 1991 (or was that 1992 memory fades), on up to tons of shows in Athens/Augusta/Atlanta until I moved over here in '96...So as for being around then I was...just in the wrong state (but the right state of mind 8) ) anyway I'm not expecting the same 'ol Panic of the early and mid 90's...it'll obviously be a slightly different sound with out Houser, but hell I didn't not go see Pink Floyd cause Roger Waters wasn't with 'em anymore....

Enjoy it for what it is a show by one of the greatest Southern Fried Jam Bands ever.... Course I'll be older than 90% of the attendee's but hell why not...I may not be a hippie but I love their music....

Undercover...now what exactly is selling out...I still think DMB puts on a hell of a show and is a great musician...isn't the point of all this to sell out and make enough money to keep doin' what you enjoy? Maybing I'm becoming cynical.......
