Ouch that hurt.

A Mississippian talking about kissing cousins!

I can't figure out which is thicker: the irony, or the incredible amount of wit that some of you have.

Please continue...this thread will reach 3-4 pages when its all said and done.

I've seen both of the boys play. Johns has a better arm and more accurate than the kid from S.P., he's an all around playmaker on off. and df.
The boy from S.P. is talented as well, and has maybe alittle better speed.
He's got a good arm too, but not as good as Johns.

I believe Mr. Football went to the right person.
Now it is a new year for new people thought.

I think Johns runs a 4.6.

Thanks for your input kuntry.

Maybe some around here can take note on how to give a reply with substance.

Bama made sure he got paid :D

Hell, even Bama looks like a good alternative to choosing a Miss school.

i will agree, this ain't friday night lights anymore. I've seen walkons become all americans and mr footballs become all nothings.

hey who all saw the 5-A champoinship game last year... b/w south panola and whoever the hell they biatch slapped... hell derek peagus should have earned the mr football award on that game alone....

i'll go on the record and predicit that d.p. will be all sec- freshman team. and then all sec..

oh one more note one of the most prestegious all-star games for high schoolers (i can't think of the name of it).. guess who was the defensive mvp of that game..

oh and another note.. guess who broke his foot of in alabama during the miss/ alabama all star football game... same person as above.. not mr miss football!!!

i can assure weedman. that if bama had a choice between mr miss football j johns or derek peagus... there'd be no choice

Hell, boys truth is high school ball has nothing to do with College ball, I've gotta agree w/ gumbo...being a highly touted recruit isn't a good indicator of sucess, it's a good indicator of media exposure and playing well in high school.

David Pollack was a 2-star recruit (maybe 1.5 actually), and I think he had a pretty good career (3 time 1st team all american)...then again we got a kid named Albert Hollis at UGA that was a top 10 national recruit...never set foot on the field due to an injury. It's a funny game and I've been around it too long to hang my hat on any of these prep awards...their nice and are good rewards for talent, but in College ball you need more than just talent to succeed.

I don't know of any recruiting services that hand out half stars...not saying I can't be wrong or being a smart @ss about it, just never heard of it before...

gordon thats what i said earlier... lets see what they do when the lights are turned on... you can never be sure how a guy will respond..

other factors come into play such as adjusting to college life, and so on...

the only true way to rank a player or a recuriting class is after their finished playing!!!!

This should present problems for Heisman voters.

Jimmy Johns practices at tailback

By Jessie Patterson
Special to The Tuscaloosa News
August 19, 2005

TUSCALOOSA | Freshman quarterback Jimmy Johns left behind the yellow jersey that all quarterbacks wear as the University of Alabama football team took the field Thursday morning for the first practice of the day.

Instead, Johns saw some action at tailback in what he called a “group decision" that involved both his coaches and his parents.

“I played quarterback in high school, but I rushed for I don’t know how many yards," Johns said. “I might do better in the backfield taking the handoff. It’s not new -- the only thing new is taking the handoff."

Johns may see action at tailback and running back, along with special teams this season. He said he might be able to get some reps at tailback behind junior Kenneth Darby.

“I talked with the coaches about it, I talked with my parents about it," Johns said. “I’m going to do some special teams and just get on the field. They just want to see me on the field this year."

Johns said he discussed the move with coaches earlier this week.

“I asked to be on the special teams because I feel like that I can play," he said. “I’m physical enough to do some special teams things."

Johns has not closed the door on returning to quarterback.

“In addition to quarterback, I’m going to be running some and doing tailback, but basically we’re just trying to get me on the field this year," Johns said. “Brodie [Croyle] is probably the best quarterback in the nation right now and you can’t look for a guy like that to go down or anything like that and no freshman is going to come in and take his spot."

Alabama head coach Mike Shula liked what he saw from Johns in both practices Thursday.

“We let him work with the running backs today," Shula said. “It’s something we’re thinking about doing since he’s such a good athlete in addition to playing quarterback. I thought he looked pretty good out there for the first day."

In the afternoon practice, Johns took some reps with the first unit.

You know webbdisaster you don't have a problem with Mississippi when it comes to taking good football players from here, nor do you when you come hunt over here have a problem with Ms. What do you do just close your eyes and pretend the whole world is alabamer?
At times there is not a satisfactory substitute for well-aimed lead going down range at high velocity.
