dog box?
I've seen where some of you have stainless steel insulated dog boxes with fans. What are some of the brands that yall like? What are some features that you would not have and what would you not do without?

deerskin dog boxes.....they're the cat's meow man.
troy williams (used to post here some, but ain't seen him in a while) has one as well.
standard is the fan system on every box (i think).....
one feature i like on mine: has a "rail" going around the top, helps to load it, and afterwords, serves as a luggage rack, etc...
feature i could do w/out (and do): some come w/ a water tank/bladder...dog needs to drink, he'll get the bowl. use that room for storage.
feature i wish i had put on mine: airing lights...at the time, i didn't think much about em as i figured it'd just knock em off, but now, they'd be nice.....although, i'm certain i'd still knock em off somehow...
my 2 cents, gator

and if you get the deerskin, let gator's electrician hook it up for ya
deerskin, ainley, both well known companies. If you don't have to have one of those stamps
, check out mountaintop custom kennels. a smaller/newer shop, won't beat the price and well made.
I'll go w/ gator on options. added the airing light on mine at the last minute, and its handy.

completely forgot about mountaintop......chaser's got one, and it's a good looking, good functioning box....
i talked to them first actually, and those folks will work w/ you, as will deereskin et al....
thing that finally sold me on deerskin (apart from just being a bad lil mofo) was the fact that they have a "dealer" from mississippi down in columbia - eddie sullivan.....he's on there website. bout once a month or so, eddie goes out there and picks up boxes/trailers and brings em back....he'll work w/ you on deliver and i just drove down there and got mine..........saved a TON on delivery....so great box, great people willing to do pretty much what you ask (as long as it's safe), and no delivery charge......welp, sometimes 2+2 does equal 4.

Thanks guys. Gator and duck chaser, yall are the two I aimed the question at. Steve, I'm still checking with the wife to see if I'm getting the O.K. for sat. if you are still planning on training. After being gone all day last Sat. I'm not sure if I can make it. Glad to know yours is a mountaintop. They look good on the website.

alternative
a much cheaper alternative to the stainless box is the fiber lite box....
its fiberglass, light as a feather, and even in 100 mid-afternoon heat, the outside of the box is cool enough to touch without scolding your hand.
I added fans to mine, they are 4" bilge blowers from the marine shop. the box came with 3 circular vents per box, and when the fans kick in, you can see the fur fly. My dogs will be sound asleep in the air conditioning even when parked in the sun. The trick is that this box, and the position of the fan relative to the vents will move a lot of air in and out of the box, real quick.
wished I had a deerskin, though.....

one other question while on this subject. I have two labs and plan on running both in some test this fall. Would yall go with a two dog box or go ahead and get the three (just in case
). I have not looked at the price difference, just planning for the future.

what's wrong? Forget your old password? Why don't you get your dog back, start training with us, and go to some test with me?

camlock wrote:how heavy are these things???
mine took about 3 of us to load, and although they can be taken out and put in, i dunno if i'd recommend it....that's what i liked about the rails i was describing.....the folks called me, asked if i would mind em trying something, explained it, and i says, yep, go ahead.....didn't cost any extra....those turn into handles, which make the box much easier to at least get a grip on......dam thing is bulky.....
only other issue i have, and it's not that big, you have to expect it, is that you loose a LOT of space in the back of your rig........esp w/ super crew style rigs....b/c of this, i had em raise mine off the bed 6 inches - frame built into the box, not screwed on - and this allows for my wingers to be slid in w/ no trouble.....

the boxes are bulky n heavy. I can slide the 1 dog out, on top of sawhorses, but still a pain. for one fella to move a big box, you need a stout deer hangin type set-up. pull under it, winch the box up and drive out from under it.
and josh is right, the white fiberlight with fans added is slick for hot weather.
kenny, know what ya mean. same reason I couldn't make the gig in oxford this past saturday. was gone all day the sat. before. can't make em all..
if you can swing something early, and need to get back, I'll try to have something set-up.

I got a Diamond Deluxe and is a nice box for the mid-price range. Like others and gator said the deer skin is the chit but like 3 grand for a 2 hole and more than most want or can pay. Mountain top look like nice boxes as well as Ainley. You may want to check out Creative Sport Supply boxes. They look pretty good. The fiber lites also are a good option.
