Gun Dipping/Camouflaging

If it were me I would call the manu. Because the thickness of the dip may cause problems with the injection of the shells. That is if they dip it on top of the paint it could cause it to be to thick. You could also ask them about the warranty.

saw a TV special on the dipping process the other day. they said that only one company in america does it, and that they are out of columbus, ga. there was also some connection / partnership with bill jordan's company realtree. it was an interesting process...

There was a very detailed article in one of the DU Magazines a a couple months back. It was on restoring an old gun. It had a listing of everyone who does dipping and prices. It was pretty expensive.

Hey Redneck, unless you using it for turkey hunting, I don't think a camo gun makes a difference. But will be interested in how it turns out if you go that route. Let us know if you do it.

There are several companies that do it. I called the ones in the DU article I think it was around $150.00. I thought it seemed pretty reasonable considering what you got.
There is a company in Bentinville AR that does it but I can't find the name I'll keep looking.

I just took my 870 to get teflon coated to Mike Birdsong in Florence,MS 601-939-7448. He does alot of guns for various departments of law enforcement and military from all over the country. You can either get it in black or dark green but no camo. He teflon coats everything down to the springs but not the inside of the barrel. He's doing mine for $150 and will take about 3 months.

I know 2 guy's who've had there guns done at Birdsongs in Florence, Ms. Both look good and seem to hold up well. One guy hoses off his 870, the other guy had an over and under done. I think the black looks good. As someone earlier said, you don't need camo..
I think he does everything but the inside of the barrell.

After months of trying to decide which gun to buy (and also waiting on a good deal to come along), I have bought me a Gold Hunter. The only thing is that it isn't camouflaged. I'm thinking about sending it off and having it dipped. Have any of you ever had this done or know anything about it? I don't want to screw up a good gun. Also, I wonder if having it dipped will void the gun's warranty? Any info/suggestions would be appreciated.

i had an old gun that i wanted to get camoed. i finally found a place and the cost was outreageous. $200+... needless to say it got the good ole backyard,in the shed, hangin from a nail, krylon camo manufacturing job. total cost...$6

Yall boys aint gotta worry about Redneck dipping this gun, IT COSTS MONEY TO DO THAT. Hell, it took him 6 years to buy a gun. That boy is tight, he's got 75cents of every dollar he's ever made. You can do it yourself and I promise you it's good enough.

Take a scotchbrite pad and scuff up the metal and wood. Wipe with a lint free cloth soaked in paint thinner to remove oils. Tape over what you don't want camoed. Paint the whole gun with a high quality flat khaki spray paint. Once that dries well use flat black, brown, grey and fog in around real leaves and grass. When you've got it like you want it, spray it with several coats of spray polyeurothane.

You might want to start on an old gun that you aren't worried about messing up. You won't mess it up but it'll make you feel better when you start on a more expensive gun.

I've done this about 5 times now and once you get over the fear of "spray painting a nice shotgun" it's pretty cool.

It's a good idea to remove the stock and fore end and seal the unexposed parts to make them waterproof as well.

You'll really be proud of it when it's done.
