Recent Cork Decoy Pictures

Here's a group of 6 cork/basswood bluebills that I started sealing tonight.

Here's the first half-dozen that I completed earlier in the summer.

Hopefully I can finish a couple of mallards and buffleheads before season starts.

Thanks for compliments but feel free to tell me if something doesn't look right. To answer Dogseye and Spoonallard, they are not kits. I buy large sheets of cork (something like 37"27"by4"thick) and cut out top profiles with my bandsaw. Then I draw the side profiles on the bodies and cut out with hacksaw before carving and sanding. With the heads, I buy large blocks of rough-cut basswood and plane. Then I cut out top and side profiles on my bandsaw before carving/sanding/etc.

I guess that's a long way of answering "are you carving all of that? or buying a kit?".

Bama, I really have to say, tose are some of the best looking cork decoys I have seen. I have been looking at a lot of them lately and those are probably the best looking bluebills I have seen.

Love 'em, great job! Reminded me to see if an old page was still around. Finally quit it (too much sugar for a dime) but still carve for hobby every now and again.

Kinof like going back in time and seeing yourself in plaid bellbottoms :lol:

Several of them will be christmas presents this year so they won't be going on the water. I probably won't be buying cork decoys to hunt but I'll hunt my own for sure. I like the head position of the resting mallards on your page Double R. I've been wanting to try some like that. Looks like some Grayson Chesser influence.

This picture is some of my first half dozen... You can see lots of flat spots on the bodies an the heads don't look that great.
