CELL PHONES...

suncom is pretty good so is cingular. cell south has some of the best coverage around north ms and pretty much everywhere we travel . they have better coverage than most but as far as plans suncom has great plans. you can go by each company and get a demo to use to see if you like the service first. i know because i used to work for cell company in nw ms. it is better to try service before you sign contract than to get stuck with a useless phone for 12 mo or 200 dollar disconnect fee!!!

Getalab,

I am from DeSoto County and have Cingular. I love it by far. I have had all of the rest and they do not stand up to the Cingular. I hunt and fish all over Arkabutla and Sardis and have a signal. Some places at Sardis I am on Roam but still have a signal. my 2cents

Talk about being handy! Cell South offers the best coverage in MS. Here's one tip all you cell phone user's need to remember!!! Anytime you are in an emergency just dial 911. Even if you don't have service it will find service. It will interupt any tower or gov. service. It will even go up to a satelite. You can always get out on an emergency call. You never know when it might save a life.

CELL PHONES...

As a kid in the mid '60s I can remember that several of my relatives in Yalobusha and Tallahatchie counties did not have telephones - not because they didn't want them or couldn't afford them, but because they were not available. They all had whiteface Johnson CB base stations though. We'd call my Grandfather who had a phone and a radio and he would relay messages to the other relatives.

Yes, technology has come a long way.

Another bit of info, you can get any discarded cell phone that still works and use it for 911 calls even without a service contract with anyone. You can also make emergency calls with a credit card or collect without a contract.
