Interesting quote from Retriever's Online....

Postby gator » Sat Jul 23, 2005 2:02 pm

this is from another of dennis voight's article's...the article is entitled
"MAINTAINING AN ADVANCED DOG"
. IMHO, this is one of the hardest things a traininer (pro or amateur) faces. i'm in the middle of it right now, the dude can do most anything (except maybe sit his booty still  ) and is always a fun dog to train, but due to his advanced skills, it has become harder and harder to train and NOT tests...

anyhow, here's the quote and i thought it is pretty good. really pertain's to the other "return to pattern blind" thread that got sorta off topic - thanks to me and my friend w. shakespeare

"....Basic field setups employ themes, alot over a period of a few days. They also invoke 3-peats on blinds on a regular basis. At the FIRST SIGN OF DETERIORATION certain drills come into play depeneding on the issue. These include wagon-wheel lining, bird-boy blinds, poison bird drills, tune-up drills, cheating singles, and a fan or Chinese Drill. I strive for an ABCD a week."

now, voight is a self proclaimed lardyite and rex carrian too....sheds some more light on it i think.....

i would like to say, i'm glad Dennis is now including MY 3-peat drill into his schedule.... ahh, those were the days, gator

just got thru reading the article EXPANDING THE TUNE-UP DRILL. another great read, and again, sheds some light on this topic that B3 started the other day....voight goes thru this tune-up of 4 blinds, each different but offering similar concepts, and he "expands" them by increasing lengths, adding marks for diversions, and even runs them as poison birds....he repeats this over days (he mentions 4 days, but i'd do em until i was confident the lesson learned before increasing the difficulty)....again, great read, but the last sentence caught my eye....

from d. voight, Retrievers Online

Postscript: I will not hesitate to revisit this setup later this summer for a day or two

yeah, i'd say "lardyites" that know wut's up repeat certain things......gator

good stuff.

had a chance to get out this am. happenned to aquire some help, and had a couple flyers handy.

decided to make most of a flyer as a poison bird blind. it worked. shot flyer, no'd off, and ran blind.. about halfway the suction kicked in. 8) about 3 or so whistles. no blatent CR or corrections, but could see the suck from that flyer. did just what I wanted, and we pulled through something new for us. I plan to run that same PB blind again soon. should be cheese, especially without the flyer. would seem like a missed opportunity to 'drive it home' if we didn't repeat.

that was about the only thing that went smooth. first go, my flyer man had a bad shell, and there goes duck. then a winger that wasen't hooked-up, throws bird about 5 feet. and its 200 degrees at 6:30. one of those days..
