I have made a request for the additonal dates from my contacts at Remington and will post when I receive them.
If your barrel has a LC-2 on it that means that it was ordered as a spare or replacemnet barrel.
If it has a LC-3 on it that means that the gun or barrel was sent into Remington for repair and the barrel was replaced by the Repair Division.
If it has a 4 stamped on it that means the barrel and or gun was sent into the Remington repair division and was either fixed or checked as OK and returned.
There is also a way to tell the month it was manufactured and I know they use the code BLACKPOWERX as the letters to tell you that.
B=1 L=2 A=3 etc etc etc until X=12
I remember that being on the barrel and not the receiver but I have also asked for that info and will relay that when I get it.
There you have it.....

870 pump question.....
Aw come on fellers...think about it. Americans like things big. We got magnum trucks, biggie fries, a three and a half inch shotgun shell (mortar shell) the shoot a little duck....etc.
So when we market stuff, we use the biggest dimension possible. Like your TV set in your den aint really 19" across, it's 19" diagonal (who cares what the diagonal is).
Same with the shells. Your 2 and 3/4 shell is really only 2 and 3/4 after it's been fired....and your 3 inch shell is really only 3 inches after it's fired...etc. If it sounds bigger, why, then it must be better.
Same reason no man would ever agree to have his dimensions measured after swimming in a cold pool. Things might "appear" shorter than normal...and that just doesn't match the Americans like things bigger code.

Ok Wildfowler Im big enough to admit when Im wrong, and in this case I am. I actually did measure the shells and you were right. Welldoggie's size comparison theory is probably right (especially in my case). For somebody as you say "aint trying to start nothing" you sure do have a sharp tongue (or in this case keyboard)could have been a freindly discussion where everybody learns a little till you go being a comedian. FYI I shoot more rounds in a month than MOST folks do in a year. Obviously the bulk of'em aint shotgun, just one of them deals where you could have sworn you were right instead took a big ole bite of shoe. In the future please spare me proof of your brilliance through sarcasm.

870 pump question.....
Wow Harley! I was just trying to make a little joke with ya' and point out a little mistake in your measurements. But before you go and open your mouth again, I think you need to go get that ruler and then go find someone who can show you how it works. I know this past duck season was slow and you probably handled as few shells as I did this year. But your memory of the size of a shot shell has obviously escaped you.
I'm looking at a 3" unfired Drylok, (LIVE ROUND) whose overall length measures exactly 2&1/2" long. That's unfired. I've also got an empty Estate 3" steel hull that that I found in my boat. The overall length of this fired hull is just under 3 inches long. And wouldn't you know it? I also found an empty 2&3/4" Kent hull in my boat. The overall length of the Kent measured exactly 2&3/4 inches long. Now even though I don't shoot them, I happen to have a live 3&1/2" Drylok round. Guess what Harley? The overall length of this live shell is just a hair past 3 inches. I couldn't find any empty 3" inch Drylok hulls in my boat so I don't have one to measure. But I do have enough depth perception to be able to look at this shell and tell you that the crimp is not a full inch long. But if it makes you happy, I will conced and give you a margin of error of a 1/16th of an inch. The 3 inch Drylok may actually be 3&1/16" long after it's been fired and it sure ain't no 3 and 1/2 inches long. If I had a digital camera, I'd be glad to show you how to use a ruler.
One more thing Harley, I said that don't like to cause trouble for anybody so please don't take this personally. But I did go measure a live 3" inch shells before I said anything to you. I would encourage you to do the same thing the next time you attempt to dazzle me with you superior intellect.

I'm certainly big enough to admit when I am wrong also. All I was really trying to do with my first post to you was to prompt you to say something clever. Something that we would both get a laugh at. But it didn't quite work out that way. Anyway, I certainly wasn't trying to get on your bad side.

No problem, just a mis-understanding I guess. Anyway, now I know.
