where do you buy shells?

Postby modux » Sun Feb 24, 2002 7:35 pm

Tha previous post about the M Mallard and the sale that excluded shells made me think where do you guys buy shells. Sites like cheaperthandirt blow the locals away on price and you never have to leave the office or house. Anybody else buy that way? Just curious.
I went to the sale and you pretty much had to get Jeff to go to the register with you to tell them how much to mark an item down.

I get mine at Academy Sports in Baton Rouge. I know there is an Academy in Gulfport. They have the best prices of any store I've seen on steel shot. Obviously, on-line is cheaper and my brother ordered a case on-line (dunno what site). With shipping added in they beat Academy by about $2 per box, but he ordered them in the first week of Jan. and didn't get them before the season closed. In fact, I don't know if he got them yet. Academy, had 3" DryLok in any size for $13.50 per box. 2 3/4" were about $12.00.

Hope this Helps

I went to walmart in Baton Rouge and got a heck of a deal on some shells fri.
I bought 3 boxes of 3.5's steel shot for $24, they had 20 ga steel shot for $4 and all kind of lead shot for $2 and $3 dollars a box.
If anyone shoots a 16 gauge they have about 6 cases of shells there for $2 a box.

I gotta agree with steel shot. They wont be at that price before or during hunting season, but if your like most on this board you think about duck huntin' 24-7 anyway. You gotta go look right after season for the good deals at Wal-Mart. I picked up a case of 3.5" Drylock's #1's 1 9/16oz. for $85!! The guy at the counter said it is common for them to do that to get rid of the inventory prior to next year. Would have bought more cept somebody beat me to it, there wasn't a 3" in the house!
