Flies
Flies
Anyone have any suggestions on how to keep flies away from a kennel? I keep the slab sprayed down daily, but that doesn’t seem to help much.
I have seen a product called "flys off" or something similar. anyway it's supose to keep flies off your dog and any open wounds they may have due to scratching/insect bites etc. Several hardware stores and such have a small fly "house" that has some kind of attractant in it that you mix with water, it attracts flies, they fly in, and cant fly back out. I have used these several times and they work really really well. There is no one thing you can do to form a barrier around your house/yard to keep flies out, but at least with this product then ones that come close to it fly in and can't get back out.
It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Get several of those fly trap bags and hang up around the kennel. They help a good bit. You can get them at Lows or Home Depot, maybe Walmart. Nothing that I know of is a sure thing but they seem to keep them down to a minimum.
The deer flys are terrible this year for some reason. They just about drive me crazy in the late afternoons.

I bought some collars from a feed store in West Memphis Ark, That repels Flies and Skeets. they work excellent. There good for two months. It's just a little snap on collar-looks sorta like a patient wristband a hospital would use. Runs about 12 bucks -but worth every penny. I have used it all in our kennels -Flys off -Hartz repellent- sulfur, you name I tried it. Nothing is worse than having a client see his dogs ears have eaten.
The best thing about these collars is its not something that you have to re-apply 3 times a day. The store was Tri-State Supplies -I think they have a web site.

Hang up ziplock bags with water and a penny in them. I know you must have seen this and it works.

If some animals are good at hunting and others are suitable for hunting, then the Gods must clearly smile on hunting.
