Boat got stolen

Postby featherduster » Thu Feb 14, 2002 9:17 pm

As I was driving home from work, my wife called me from home to ask if I had moved my boat for any reason. I told her no it was locked up beside the house and she said no it wasn't. I get home and the deputy shows up to take the report. I later notice that 4 rod and reels are missing from the back porch also. May have some luck though because where they backed up to the boat my wife found a receipt laying in the yard that wasn't none of ours. It has an account number on it with the name of a prominent car dealership so hopefully they can trace it back to the SOB that stole my stuff. Enough is enough. My old house was broken into twice in 2000 taking guns, electronics, and frozen meats. Can't win for losing. And I know I'm an idiot, the boat nor motor were insured.

Sorry to hear that FD.

Man, I hate a thief...A nice "midnight ride" on the river would be good enough for 'em.

Check out that receipt real good. It should eventually nab 'em for you. I found a huge bag of garbage tossed out near my driveway.
I live waaaayyy out in the sticks, so it was no accident. I sifted through the entire stinky mess, and found a pharmacy receipt with a prescription number on it. I simply called the pharmacy, which was about 30 miles away, told the owner my situation, and he gave me the turds name. I loaded all of it back into the bag, drove to the turds house, and unloaded it under his carport. He comes out of the house, throwing a fit, until I handed him the pharmacy receipt, and told him he must have lost the garbage out of his truck, and I was returning it to him. He just shook his head, and walked back in his house without a word. I KNEW it was done on purpose because I had caught him trespassing about a month earlier.

I hope you have better luck with your boat than I did with my 4 wheeler. I never heard a thing from the police. I called several times and was transferred around until someone told me it wasn't recovered..
The insurance has sice paid, I'll be looking for another one now..

Hate to hear that featherduster. I have had one stolen from me, years ago. It was an 18ft Wareagle less than a year old. I eventually recovered it ON MY OWN, but it was beyond repair. The guy first dropped it on a boat ramp and cracked the hull. He had it serviced at a marine dealership that I visited and had given my info to. It took me several months to find him, but by then he had torn out the lower unit and bent the transom badly. I got the satisfaction of pressing charges, but he didn't have a pot to piss in, so I was out an $8000 boat.

My advise would be to inform every dealer in the area, rangers at local resevoirs\lakes. If the city police made the report, be sure to inform the counties (don't assume the police will comunicate to eachother). Post pictures with a reward at baitshops, gas stations around the lakes. If you had the boat registered, be sure to inform the MDWFP. Its alot of work, but it will keep the guy looking over his shoulder.

Good luck.

People got shot for that crap, whether it was a weed eater or can of gas. I hope they who did it and make them pay. Call me when the crappie starting biting around vicksburg and I'll come get you in my boat and we'll go wear em out!

Hey feather duster, do you live in the county and was it the sheriffs dept. that came out. If it was stay on the butts. Man can they be lazy. My truck got broken into last year and they caught the 3 thugs who did it. About $600 in damage altogether. The thugs spent 1 night in jail and I aint heard **** since. Mike Traxler was the investigator, I tried to call him time and time again and aint never heard squat or got in touch with. I was told the night it happened that I would get reimbursed through restitution (what a joke).

I was in Ark. during Christmas ,woke up at 3:00 am went outside to find my outboard had been stolen. The thieves unbolted it from the transom. No insurance. Igot home and checked my home policy and it covered $1000 on a new motor. You might want to check your policy. Yes i have full coverage now.

I appreciate all the support and responses. Alot of steps have already been taken in looking for the boat on my own. I'm going to give the Sherrif's department until Tuesday before I start calling. Yeah PeeWee, I live up at Eagle Lake.

Could you post a description of your boat? I'm sure the Vicksburg crowd on this board would be glad to keep an eye out for it.
