Not really. Not many ducks either. Some Hollywoods on crawfish ponds where we were in Lawtell.
Duane Smith invited us and put on a hell of a cooking for us Friday and Saturday nights, though. We stayed in his camp by his crawfish ponds.
Friday we had sausage, shrimp, & crawfish en fricasse. (crawfish and shrimp stew?) Saturday's menu was boiled crawfish with potatoes, corn and mushrooms, beer, turtle bisque, and a desert the ladies made with whipped craem, chocolate, coconut, etc. We got so full it hurt. You talk about good food. Good hospitality too.
Also Ken Thibadeax and somebody Boudreaux were there. They were having a Thibadeaux and Boudreaux joke contest, it seemed. Thibadeaux would tell a Boudreax joke then Boudreaux would tell a Thibadeax joke. What a hoot.
Y'all ever seen some of those boats they work crawfish ponds with? They got me to wonderin. They are about 90" wide and 12-14' long . . . with wheels! One on each side and one in front on a boom. Hydraulic operated. The one in front moves up and down to hug the bottom! They work the shallow crawfish ponds and when they have checked all the traps they just ride up on the levee and move to another pond.
