Was at Grand Central Station (Southernmost WMA in Delta) on Sunday and the place was loaded . . . with SHOVELERS! I only saw about 6-8 ducks I could positively ID as Mallards. I noticed that my son Addison, who is almost 4, really doesn't frown on Shovelers yet!

The Canada Geese, about 25, are still hanging around Deer Creek by the camp. There was a flock of about 1000 geese, mostly dark ones, but some snows, also nearby. There were only 6 Gadwals in Deer Creek at V.P. I didn't see anything fly until spooked by the truck. All the ducks were VERY skittish.

Just thought I'd ask some of you who get to look at them after the season. The first week of February used to be the best time to go out and study the birds and how they work.

Drove north on 49w, from Blaine to Tutwiler(sp), and there was plenty of mallards in the flooded fields right beside the hwy. I also saw a good many honkers. But, that was on sunday, so they could be gone.

Crow.....Sorry we couldn't get our schedule together to shoot the old duck this year. Me and your old Bro-in-law didn't kill a handful all year, but I kept trying...and trying....and trying. He did tell me a couple of days ago he finally had 800-1000 right out in front of the cabin, where we shot 'em last year. Hasn't been a duck out there all year til just recently. Hwy 3 hole was a bust this year. Too much water early, then when a few did get there it was the most skittish you've ever seen. Needed you there to show me some new trick. Hopefully next year will be back to normal, and look forward to getting back out in the blind with you. nj

Hey there, Dhtoo! Yeah, it was a mess all the way around this year. Missed getting to share a blind with you boys. I canceled my late trip back when Paw-in-Law got sick. My son and I did enjoy traipsing through the delta for a few days, though. I think we stopped at every store and BBQ place in the delta. Trying to fill up that 6'6" stomach was a constant challenge! Hope you get to meet him next year. He's finally getting to the age where he'd like to get back to hunting with the old man more. I'd love for him to see those pintails like were in your place last year! Build a few more houses so we can hunt some next year! Check you later. You oughta come up to GA and turkey hunt with me this spring.
