We all have something that happens during the season that sticks in our head as the funniest, most amazing or whatever kind of memory. What's your?
I think mine was when a group of my old buddies came down from Yankee land, we killed a bunch of ducks in the afternoon. Unloaded the guns and sat in my pit with the heater on drinking Turkey 101 and coke watching ducks land in the moonlight and talking about all our old duck hunting memories. Before we knew it is was 10:30 at night.

I remember one year when everything was frozen up solid, and a couple of hunting buddies and I broke ice into our hole. We set out the decoys and waited for the birds. Ice was forming on the decoys, and we had to work at keeping movement in the decoys. A flock of about thirty almost landed on our laps, and we unloaded. After the smoke and feathers cleared, we finished off the cripples and gathered 8 greenheads up! After checking for bands and arguing about who missed, we set up for another round. I scanned the area and saw something rippling the water in the trees. I moved closer and saw it was another greenhead that was feet up and dying!!
About ten minutes later, another flock of about FIFTY landed. We had to sit there and watch because we didn't want to shoot suzies.

DY,
Since you know my son, I am sure you can appreciate this. My favorite memories are his 'firsts' - and being with him. His first duck hunt with me when I had to 'duck' to keep a woodie from landing on me, and him busting out laughing -- his first greenhead in the green timber -- his first deer this year -- shooting his first geese from several hundred landing in the decoys. Watching him blow the duck call just before dark while the ducks filter in through an amazing Arkansas sunset... There are so many wonderful memories, especially as a dad watching his son grow up with an amazing appreciation for what God has put on this earth -- for us to enjoy.

I'll have to agree with you 100% MSB! There is simply nothing like hunting with your sons/kids and seeing them kill their first duck!!! That happened this year with my 13 yr old and I wouldn't trade the experience for anything in the world.
As Delta Duck says....now I have to get my 7 yr old a "feet down greenhead" next year.
People often ask me why I like duck hunting so much. I tell them it isn't because of the thrill of the kill (this year is a testament to that). It is the cold, it is the stars in a predawn sky (See Duckmen's photo), it is the sunset, it is the smell of coffee and it is the conversations that you have with hunting "friends" that make duck hunting so special.
