First Litter is the most troublesome for momma. You may need to break the sack and rub the pup with a rag to stimulate it to breathe on the first one or two after which the instinct thing sinks in and she's perfect on her own. If it's a large litter don't let her eat to many sacks. 5 or 6 is enough to start the colostrum.

The problem is they always go and hide to do this and you don't see the first one, that's why you need a box you can watch, but then again they usually do it at 3 in the morning and there is no telling where they'll go.

Good Luck.
