River Hawk or Pirogue

Postby woody » Sun Dec 02, 2001 6:46 pm

I'm looking for a small boat that would be easy to manuver through flooded timber but big enough fo two people. Someone suggested a riverhawk or a pirogue. Anyone had any experience with eihter one. If so what did you think.

Get a 16' pirouge, I don't think you could go wrong. You could probably do it with a 14', but it would be quite tippy, a 16' is pretty damn stable and I think the boat of choice. Don't know what a river hawk is, but Iknow a pirouge is the only small boat I would ever own. Then again I live in S.E. Louisiana too.

You can't go wrong with a RiverHawk either. Much more stable than a pirogue but at the expense of a little more weight. I've got a guys card that is a dealer in Ridgeland if I can dig it up I'll e-mail you his #. They range in price from $450 - $900 or so according to length and width.

got a 16 ft and a 12 ft riverhawk- very stable boats, the 12 footer should be perfect for duck hunting, although i only use them for fishing - the 12 footer would be a little heavier than a pirouge

Go to www.pirogue.com and look at Mr. Chapman's site. I bought a Copperhead model from him about 10 years ago. They are fiberglass pirogues, mine weighs about 35 pounds. You can drag it through the woods with little effort; I use mine alot when I hunt the refuges. I think mine cost about 240.00. They'll go in about 3 inches of water and you can slip over logs in the timber.

Riverhawk bought the design of gheenoe, it is the same boat. They are awesome, I got the gheenoe 15 years ago when it first came out, got two riverhawks now, I love them. That pirough is gonna have a tough time with two fat asses geared out, the riverhawk can take two large fellows and still draw very little water.

Anyone know of a website for the Riverhawk boats. I've been thinking of getting something small like this for some time now. I think this is the year that I'll do it.

I'm interested in a 12 footer or so, if y'all know of one that's for sale.

I had a 15' Riverhawk and loved it. My brother has it now. That little rig is VERY stable and I would highly recommend it. Go to www.geocities.com/sewellmarine/index.html

i got an 8 ft. CATFISH PIROUGE, hand made by an old friend of mine and i wouldn't take anything for it... hard to paddle straight, but with a few shots of Scotch and Water, you will never know the difference...

in reallity, i love the boat...
