neoprene v canvas waders

Postby mallardchaser » Mon Jan 28, 2002 2:46 pm

How many use neoprenes?
I have alway's used canvas/rubber waders..I had some hodgman that lasted 8 seasons..I had a blowout so I had to borrow a friends neoprenes for the last weekend..I hate neoprenes...1st of all , they're hard to get on, and they're hot as hell if you have to walk any distance. I'll be going back to the hodgman wadewells next year...
What's y'alls opinion?
I guess if you ride in a boat and hop out they'd be ok, obviously they're very warm...

I converted to neo several years ago and will not go back. LaCross or Hodgman both work well. If you can't get there in a Boat or on a 4weeler you will have to Sweat it out! Duck hunting used to be a cool weather sport!

Does an 8-track player or CD sound better. You give him duck calls, let him borrow motors, waders, and listed to how appreciative he is.

The 1st day I wore them it was 70 in the morning on the way in. I guess that's not a good time to test out the neo..

Didn't you say that you weren't going in that place again if the temperature was going above 50 degrees. Besides, you don't need to wear wool pants with that kind of heat.

I agree, if the weather is going to be warm, like it is during Teal season or during the MS duck season, I would prefer to wear a pair of canvas waders. If you are going to be standing in deep water in cold weather, you'll wish you had those "hot" waders on.

I think you should just get a pair of each. Or better yet, two pair of each like me. That way you'll always have a dry pair to put on.

feedcall:
I believe you're a little mistaken on whose given who duck calls. I think the count is 3 from me to you, 0 from you to me..I do appreciate you loaning me those piece of sheits, i mean waders..just kidding, I do appreciate you letting me use them..
Wildfowler your prob right on both kinds, I don't think the wife will go for that..maybe i'll buy one pair now and one pair next season..
wildfowler take your spinnerbait w/ you in the morning, if the ducks are slow , you can alway's get a bass to bite..
Feedcall, get to work...

MC, get some of the 3.5MM Lacrosse or Rocky neoprene waders. I like the tight fit instead of the regular canvas waders, just too bulky and awkward. I wear a pair of sweatpants under my waders, that's it. I was very skeptical of the neoprene's until I went and bought a pair this year, now you can't tear them out of my hands.

MC, when it is hot, I wear a pair of shorts under my neo's. I am one of the strange ones that wear the stocking feet style. I HATE the heavy boots on waders. I have even worn a old pair of tennis shoes as boots - because they are light. When the inside of my neo's gets wet, I just turn them inside out and within 15 minutes they are dry. I always thought that my boots would be heavy and full of water with the stocking foot style, but they aren't heavy at all.

I can't tell you how many times I have hopped around, cussing at 5am trying to get a pair of wet-boot waders on. With the stocking feet-style it is a breeze...

I can't imagine going back to heavy canvas waders and HEAVy rubber boots. And with sweats under my neo's, I almost never get cold...

MALLARDCHASER, USED TO BE A CANVAS PUREST JUST LIKE YOURSELF,BUT I'VE WENT THE OTHER DIRECTION. GOT A PAIR OF LACROSSE SUPERTOUGH 3.5 NEO LAST YEAR AND LOVE THEM. LIGHTER,LESS BULKY,WARMER, PLUS THEY HOLD UP BETTER AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED. USED TO CONSTANTLY BE PATCHING WADERS,BUT I HAVEN'T
PATCHED THESE IN TWO SEASONS,AND I WADE INTO SOME PRETTY THICK STUFF SOMETIMES

P.S.THANKS AGAIN FOR PUTTING THOSE 4 WHEELER TIRES ON ME, WORKING JUST FINE

Feedcall - at least MC didn't tear those fancy neo's up. If I loan him something, it's guaranteed to get busted. Hell - I am accident-prone and he breaks the stuff I can't even tear up.

MC - get 2 pairs of wadewells. We'll have this conversation in another 5 or six years. Save the big bucks for the tires you need on that pick up. It would have been a long walk from the parking lot to the highway

Enjoyed the hunt this weekend..
