South Texas Turkey hunting *Updated with Pics*

My annual south Texas trip is here again. We leave today for 5 days of awesome hunting in Edwards county. I look forward to this trip as much as anything I do. If you ever get the chance to go to Texas for turkeys, do not pass it up. Hopefully I'll have pics to post upon my return... Last year, 4 hunters = 11 longbeards.

Yall work on these easterns while I'm gone.

Man, i just got back from Texas yesterday. Had a blast.
Killed a 9 5/8",1" spur, 20 pounder , and a 9 1/2", 7/8" spurs, 19 pounder on the first morning.
My buddy killed a 9 15/16", 1 1/8", 20 pound the same morning.
Didn't get his last one though. Could have killed about a dozen jakes with a stick.
I wanted to get me one of those roadrunners. Those things are pretty sharp looking.

Got back yesterday around noon, awesome trip. 4 hunters took 11 birds. I personally killed 4 good longbeards.

Killed 2 birds with 1 3/8 spurs. Buddy of mine took the pot with a bird he took with 1 5/8 spurs. Will upload pics tonight from home.

Nothing like hunting in the Texas Hill Country.

This was the first afternoon to hunt.. it's typically better late in the afternoon than at dawn. Rio's gobble really good late in the afternoon. These 2 birds were together with another gobbler.. I called them from about 80 yards, strutting and gobbling the entire way. I shot one, the others ran and when I ejected the hull, one gobbled. I started fight purring and one came back to jump on the flopping gobbler, when I shot the 2nd, he fell on top of the first one. Both had spurs of 1 3/8.








After hunting in the morning, there are numerous types exotics roaming around. I spotted this mature Hawaiian ram with his girls... went back and they were bedded down.



Last morning of the hunt, best friend and myself (on left) teamed up for a double. Doesn't get any better than that.




I absolutely love hunting Texas, if you ever get a chance to go, do it

Who's place did you hunt on? My mom's side of the family is from Edwards County. They have turkeys everywhere in that area.

We hunt a personal lease. A great friend of mine is a leasee of this ranch and the only serious turkey hunter. We go out with him, have everything to ourselves and enjoy the great hunting.
