Browning pump

I have 2 of em. I got my 1st in 95. I wont shoot anything else duck hunting. Only problem Ive had was with a box of remington shells. They hung in the barrel. threw that box out and went back to drylocks and havent had a problem since. I figured I would hear more outta the 870 crowd on this one.

I think they are junk. The first day of the 85 or 86 duck season, I received a gift from my father. I just knew I was getting the Rem. 870 SP that I had been drooling over for the last year. What does he pull out, a BPS. This was not what I wanted, but I thought it would be a better gun than the 870. Afterall, it was a Browning, Right?

First day out, somewhere during the hunt, the gun jams. The slide would not move to eject the shell. What does my father do? he takes the gun, holding it by the slide and slams the butt of the gun against the bottom of the boat to "shuck" the spent shell. He didn't do this with brute force or anything, but guess what happened. The stock split. First day out, the gun jams and now the stock has split.

This gun was just designed to jam from the get go. It would jam up at least a dozen times during a typical 30 day duck season. (I have long since retired this gun.) I would never recommend one of these guns to anyone, which is really too bad. I think the gun feels great against my shoulder and it has some great features. Too bad it's such a piece of sh&t. Which by the way are what the letters B P S stand for.

Don't get one. If you have one, sell it, quickly.

Yeah,it was a present to myself (The best kind) after I drew my first State blind in '91.

With 1200 folks drawin' for 20 blinds at that site and considering the averages, I am due for another such present in about 50 years. [img]images/smiles/icon_rolleyes.gif[/img]

I 'spect my BPS will be about ready to be retired by then.

H20, I am sure your two BPS's are great guns. My BPS failed me on numerous occasions which is why I no longer shoot it. I would recommend an 870 Wingmaster before I would recommend a BPS to anyone. My BPS was a lemon straight out of the box, and I know of 3 others that were also lemons. I still own my gun, and I really do like the way it feels. It's a wingshooting gun, unlike some other pumps I've shouldered. I really like the top safety and the bottom ejection. It's too bad I had such a terrible string of luck with mine, because I could really shoot well with it.

Softcall watched me surgically remove a single Greenhead from the middle of a group of hens up at Mahannah one day. We each shot a hen that morning and couldn't have any more. Last thing he said before I pulled the trigger, was "be careful". I had total confidence being able to hit what I was aiming at.

That was the same day Softball's 870 flew across the field. Maybe he'll tell us the story one day this Summer when we're all bored to death.

like the Wildfowler I once bought a BPS at Surplus City, being a lefty and liking the bottom ejection.I could not believe a pumpgun could possibly jam that bad. It was worse than the Benneli I bought 3 years ago. Needless to say I sold both guns after the gunsmith could give me no relief. I am sticking with Beretta FOREVER!

Ok Ok - I admit it. I was young and foolish at the time and I vowed never to do it again. I threw that damn gun like it was a 9 iron. I swung with the skill of Dave Kingman when he was with the cubs. That's why I say that the 870 is aerodynamic. The gun still shoots the same as it did the day I got it out of the box - dead on. (I did check the weapon before I hurled it). It had gremlins and they are gone now.

IMO, BPS stands for Big Piece of !#*$. It is by far the most awkward gun I've ever put to my shoulder. I never got used to the bottom side ejection of the shells, plus it patterned steel shot past 10 yds. I tried to sell it, and couldn't get rid of it. I don't know if I got ahold of a sorry model or what.
