Just want to get everyone's opinion on what ya'll think about going back to 30 days and 3 ducks. Remember now, just opinion's!!!
Survey Question
I think we need to have a serious duck count by the powers that be before we make any decisions on that. Naturally I prefer the 6 bird limit, but if the population cannot handle it then we might need to consider it. I personally dont think that numbers are down, we just didnt get'em this year b'cause of the warm weather up north.
Survey Question
3 ducks O.K. 1 mallard hen limit, O.K. Thirty days? Forget about it.

No way Hosea!
I think there are many birds. Weather has crippled the season for us. We need to crank up the electronic calls and kill some of those blooming geese!!!
Can I get a witness?!!!

You know, I kinda liked the points system. That's when I really learned to differentiate ducks on the wing, when I learned to be patient, and when I learned that three ducks were satisfying enough. I liked it that a hen mallard was ninty points, dang sure kept me from shooting at shapes in the early morning! I do remember when you could shoot 10 pintails or 10 teal for a limit (10 pts. ea.) What do you guys think of reinstating the pts. system?

3/30 or 4/40 would be fine by me.
When it went to 6/60, it seems like we suddenly got a new bunch of new part-timers plus some "oldtimers" that wouldn't "waste their time" with 3/30 season. Some of these folks (not all) tend to do some really f'up things that end up jackin with everyone from the ramp to the blind. Seems the ones that f'up the most are the ones least willing to accept advice or help. I guess they seen all the videos they need to see for Duck Huntin' 101.
Anyway, I digress. What it comes down to is if indeed we have the ducks they say we do, then I wouldn't mind seeing a 2/120 or 3/90 season. I think we would lose some of the part-timers and be better able to handle variations in the weather.

as long as the 30 days started on jan 15, and ran through feb 14 that would be fine with me, but knowing the people who make those decisions it would probably start dec 1 and go through dec 31, with christmas day being closed. The limit going down to 3 would not be that big of a deal as long as it were 3 in any combination not 1 mallard 1 woodie ect. but 3 pintail, or 3 c-backs or 3 mallards you know what i mean, There is nothing worse that having a group of 15 pin sit down and haveing to just sit there because you already have your 1 and then you go home with only one bird that day.

Think they ought to give you a small totesack, and you can shoot however many ducks you can fit in the sack. Might be able to fit 8 or 10 teal in there, but only 4 mallards, or one canada goose. Everyone would be shooting for lil ducks then by gawd!
Think the season ought to be 30 days long, and straight through. And it doesnt start till we have 3 days in a row of below freezing temps. And duck season could be like being in the reserves, your work doesnt have to pay you, but they have to let you off! If it never gets cold by say, jan 15th, you dont have a duck season, but the following year they increase the size of your totesack by 30%!
And I think for every 25 pair of snow goose feet you send in, you ought to get a permit for a day of feburary duck hunting. Thatd get the population down! travis

I'd got for 45 days and 4 ducks. Maybe 12/16 to 1/30.
I agree with the other posters on the weather. I think the warm weather up north has hurt the hunting in the south this year. I also believe the numbers will be down next fall due to a lack of snow melt for spring water in the pothole regions. We'll probably get a double wammy on us next year!!

goosebruce gets a big ole 10-4 from me on that last post!
Survey Question
I'm kind of with WNE Driver on the subject. If it would weed out most of the weekend warriors and get things settled back down, then I would bite the bullet for a couple years. But as everyone knows, those days are days of yesteryear. I know it hasn't snowed much up north but what about rain fall? Anyone know anything about that as for as nesting conditions? If all the birds short stopped AGAIN, and haven't been hunted like years past, wouldn't that increase numbers for next year?
Survey Question
I don't see a problem with the overall population, its just bad weather this year. Although I wouldn't mind seeing the bag limit reduced. Maybe to a 5 duck, 3 mallard limit. I could compromise to some type of point system. We do a lot to conserve some species and not others. There are more mallards than widgeon and gadwall yet we can 6 of either of those. Doesn't really make sense. I wouldn't mind not being able to kill more the 3 of any species with a total bag of 5 ducks. But I don't want to see our days reduced. The 60 day season is great, if we could just get a handle on this weather thing we could have it whipped.

Water makes ducks. Snow fall melts and makes water, and the snow packs the ground to hold water. No snow, means no water means no ducks. Unless things change drasticly, we'll see populations drop 20% for next year. Greedy southern duck hunters kill too many ducks? **** , we aint touched em this year, and numbers will crash. Rain makes ducks, kill them when you got them.
Everything is figgered off mallard numbers. Very little time, energy, effort, money spent on any other ducks. Mallards are used as an example, and everything plugged in there from there. When they figure harvest numbers, you have to remember, not all regions have the ducks like we do. Coastal LA for example, has teal, pins gads, & widgeons, yet no mallards. Down there widgeons are much more plentyfull. What you see isnt reflective of overlall populations, its simply a small piece of what winters here. I watch thousands of snow geese fly over every day, but just a little distance away, folks never see a one. We could easily have different opinions about how many there are. travis

SKIPPY what have you been skipping? We might have had a bad year but not that bad. Ive hunted public waters and had success over 100 ducks with two bands. One in Deleau,Manitoba born before 97 banded 98 looks like they are living longer and getting smarter might need to dump mojo and get a jerk string. You cant expect good hunts everyday relax and enjoy the boat ride. The wood duck banded in Decater,Alabama
Survey Question
Like I said just opinions, the only thing that I have really skipped this year is work. Threw the the mojo down last year. I have had better years than this but this isn't the worse by far, where did you get that from?
