Interesting topic.
I came to a point in my life where I said I didn't want to wake up one moring when I'm 65 and wish I'd have done someting else with my life (after all, you spend half your life working).
I chose a career I thought I would enjoy...took a $7k paycut from my previous job to start this one and don't see me ever getting paid what the "average" college grad should get paid, but I like it.
Of course, there has got to be a balance between money for bills and enjoyment of the career.
I have been in the position where I dreaded getting up in the morning and going to work, but now I don't have that feeling. I like my job and I think that effects how you treat people and how you treat your family.
Yeah, it's hard being a living legend AND the light of everyone's life, but somebody's gotta do it.

i guess on a scale of 1-10, i'd call mine an 8 "most of the time"...
i'm a pharmacist at UMC w/ the hematology/oncology department....live up "on the floor" and rarely have to go down the "the basement"...
my job is unique as i actually round w/ the oncology "team", get to make suggestions and sometimes there even followed
...you know how it is tho having 26 year old "god's" walking around - you're day can get ruined FAST...
i get to meet pt's and there families, educate both on there medicines, and it's AWFUL rewarding seeing someone walk out after a tuff round of chemo...
it does suck to tho....the people that come in aren't the "type" that's going to get checkups - can't afford it for the most part. so, when there here, they are SICK. consequently, there's alot of death....
my dad (who's a pharmacist as well) asked me if i ever think i'll get used to folks dying....my answer - i hope not....gator

3hr ride to work plus 1hr helicopter ride on junky aircraft, really bites
7 days away from home sucks,
being full of oil and chemicals sucks,
climbing stairs sucks,
working 12-18 hr days suck,
running cranes suck,
getting on and off boat via a personnel basket sucks,
being fearful of explosions, blowouts, and fires suck,
making millions for companies that treat you like a number, sucks,
Food, good
half a yr off, good
food good again
looking at cobalt blue water and breath taking sunrises, good,
fishing when I get a chance, good.
Pay, Good.
Really cant complain to bad about my last four yrs spent in the Gulf, has been a real experience, just ready to get back home everyday, and maybe use my degree,

I like my job when I get to stay here. When work is slow, I go TDY to another military base. It has been OK so far because my son is not in school yet, so he and my wife go with me. I don't want that to be my life though. I would like to find something back in North Mississippi. If anyone is looking for a mechanical engineer with a background in heat transfer and HVAC, here I am.

I guess I should clarify, anywhere in North Mississippi except Clarksdale. Man that place has gotten rough. For Christmas, I bought my mom a for sale sign for her yard.
She is finally going to sale her house and move to my brothers old house in the big city of Duncan on the good side of the tracks! Good luck to Clarksdale on finding cops. The city government in Clarksdale is most of Clarksdales problems.

But the police chief is a fine, upstanding, Christian fellow and is doing good things over there. He was our chief in Belzoni about 3 years ago and we went to church together. He told me that they put their SRT team in full armor, with M-16's out on the streets when he got there and cleaned up several neighborhoods.
Face it, it's either work for a farmer or sell dope if you live in the Delta.
Working for a farmer doesn't pay nearly what selling 20 dime bags/night does. And when you can go to Walmart and get all of your meth supplies in 10 minutes, bring it to Quitman county and cook it.....well, you get the picture.
