Yes. It is total carnage. I found it hard to stay mad at the ducks that long, and hunted doves and pigeons, too. They got some whacky ducks down there that we never see here, pochards and stuff. I would suggest you contact Trek, as they are as reputable as they come. Also, plan to take at least $1K for shotgun shells if you are going to do a lot of dove shooting. Everyone should go once in thier life if they can. Take a freebie Dallas Cowboys, etc. gang banger hat and some fake RayBans for your bird boys, and they will work extra hard for you.

GC is right...something everyone should do at least once.

I gave my birdboy a pair of those glacier glasses with the vinyl sides and mirrored lens...man did he look cool!

But seriously they really appreciate sunglasses, hats or anything that helps them out in the field...they don't have much.

I have been to Argentina once and Uruguay once. Both were great...you can pretty much shoot all you want, but there is no pressure to punish yourself. My outfitters were very dedicated to seeing that the clients had fun. These trips are not for the bargain hunter, but they are definitely worth the price. I very much agree with the comments about the birdboys. They will work their hearts out for you and you will want to take care of them...we wanted to bring Horacio back from Argentina! We were hoping to go back to Argentina this summer, but the political and economic crisis there may force us to wait. If you want outfitter referrals, etc send me an E-mail.

i've been three times, just got back from my last trip in july. i can't remember the exact name, i'll look it up and post back; but i would suggest going to this place. the lodge overlooks a river and the entire area is 1 1/2 foot wetlands, mostly rice and cattle (there is so much water that the cattle graze in 2 feet of water all day long!). we hunted in rice fields, on mud flats on the river and in cattle fields. to hunt in the cattle fields we were pulled out to the "blind" area by a gaucho (argentine cowboy) on a horse pulling a boat, it was incredible. we also hunted a roosting fpot for doves, i have video of the hunt and the sky is literally black with doves. we also hunted perdiz (argentine quail) with pointing dogs ( a brittanny spaniel named pinky) which in my opinion was better than the duck hunting. we walked through untouched sage fields with dogs on point for litterally miles on end. the ducks down there are beautiful, especially the brazillian teal, a light gray duck with blkack and white streaks on its wings with green and neon yellow on its beak.

a guy called junior runs the lodge and will help you any way he can, he will also kick your ass in golf. i've got great pictures that i can email you if you would like to see the lodge, etc.

i will find out the nname of the lodge and post back to tell you how to get more info about it.

P.S. on the last day i shot 27 ducks in 1 hr 15 min!!!!!

Would that be Junior Maes of Louis Seir? They advertise heavily, but I have never known anyone who hunted with them.

The pigeons were a real blast. It makes me want to go to the UK to shoot wood pigeons, but it would cost about 2X as much as Argentina or comparable pigeon shoot.

A buddy of mine told me there is a limit on the amount of shells you can bring in. So the shells must be really expensive?

We paid $10 per box on my trips. The limit on how many you bring in, if there is one, comes mainly from the fact that you cannot feasibly travel with a duffel bag, a shotgun case, a cooler (for taxidermy specimens) and as many as 8 or 10 cases of shells!

What about that Pigeon hunting GC. I have been trying to tell my hunting budies about it. A group of 30 of those decoying is about as much fun as a guy with a 20 ga. with no plug in it can have. I killed almost 150 pigeons on my first morning out. Probably the funnest hunt of my life. Still doesn't beat a big group of fat mallards coming in though. That is something that everyone needs to do once in their life. The duck hunting is fun, but I recommend the Pigeon and the dove hunting. I split my shoulder open the second day we were there shooting doves.

Trek is who we went with. It was very well organized. Take some $$$$$$$ for shell. It is the experience of a lifetime.

the name of the lodge/town we went to in argentina was San Javier. it looked out over the Rio Plate river.

i emailed the guy who set it up and went with us. he is from michigan. i will hear from him soon and have more info if needed.

i would not advise going with trek for a while. we took our first two trips with them and were great, but as of this summer, the founder/president died and his sons are fighting over who is going to run it, so it has become a little unreliable for the time being (neither one of them know what they are doing).
