Fishing in DeSoto County

Postby Lazy Drake » Thu Mar 24, 2005 11:43 am

I got a new duck boat back during duck season, and well now it is fishing time and am curious about some places to fish in or around desoto county. I am familiar with arkabutla, I have heard about desoto lake, is that private or public, where is it located. Any suggestion would be helpful.

I also want to put in at the hwy 32 ramp on the tallahatchie river and catfish with my dad. Has anyone had any luck catfishing the tally river.

Thanks for the info

LD , if it's catfish you want you should give the coldwater river a shot . We put in below the spillway last may on sat. afternoon and ran a few miles down river , watch your depthfinder and drop a hang line in the holes on the outer banks of the bends . We stayed with the lines all night and came out at daylight sun. mornin with 200+ lbs of fish . Think big , big line , big hooks , and big ( 4-6") goldfish . We only kept 17 fish so figure that average . But we had one kicker that was a 42lb. flathead , good luck.

Desoto lake is kind of far it is a river channel lake. I would try tunica cut off or sardis.

The Desoto Lake that I know is on the Coahoma-Bolivar County line. It is an oxbow lake.

Lakeview is just west of 61 and just south of the TN line. It is a public lake but private access. $5 launch fee.

DeSoto Lake is in Coahoma county like Bully said.

If the ramp at Locopolis looks like the ramps at Campbell White and Snow's, then you'll need a trackhoe to put in. No less than 2 feet of slop on the Quitman county ramps. I've asked to have them cleaned off a half-dozen times but apparently I'm not very persuasive. I've also asked for garbage cans and more gravel.

Wingman good luck on snow's and Cambell white. The ramp here in marks has just been cleaned out and fresh gravel, they keep it up pretty good but the others are hopeless when it is down.

Be careful on the ramp at lakeview..I heard that someone got shot a couple weeks back putting their boat in in a robbery.
When I think of something clever to say, I'll put it here.

I've had some good luck fishing at Lakeview. We've never catfished that lake, but have done really good on the bass, bream, and crappie. For crappie we would fish the river run, and for bass and bream we would either fish the main part of the lake (Horn Lake) or Mud Lake.

Checked boats at Lakeview on Saturday and the most fish I saw was 59 crappie between two fellas. They were back in the run, fishing pink and black jigs. Said they were tearing up pumpkinseed jigs last week but he ran out of them.

Most everyone else had 2-5 fish apiece.

Rebelduck, help is on the way for our boat ramps.

It would suck to get shot anytime but what are the odds of getting shot while going fishing.
