A friend of mine was hunting north of Greenwood right after Christmas, and some geese came too low so he and his buddy busted a couple of specs out of the group. After they picked one up they realized that it was banded. They called it in and the bird was 13 years old. I thought that was pretty amazing. That bird has been back and forth 26 times. They said the band was so worn you could barely read the numbers on it.

I saw in the paper (back when they first started using the electronic calls) they killed some real old geese down here in La. The old geese sometimes could be called in and they killed several that were over 20 years old. You don't get many shots at old mature snows, they know better. Jack

Shoot them sprigs on their first pass!

Back when I used to guide, we killed a snow out of my blind that had a band that was so worn you literaly couln't read the numbers on the band, and the sides of it were so worn from time, there were just very small areas connecting it like mabye 3-5mm of band that hadn't worn away. I guided them again next year and they said they sent the band to the FWS and they had to do some kind of special stuff to find the trace of engraving left to read the number and the goose an eaglehead was 27yrs old.. Any damn goose that can live over 20 years is one tough dude to hunt. We wonder why them snows are so tough.

I killed a mallard this year that was banded in 1991...I killed one last year banded in 1998 in the exact same location..somewhere in Manitoba..I thought it was neat they were from the same place, both got shot in the same hole to..
