Chocolates are notorious for having all types of skin problems....check with the vet....if your dog is "chewing" at the area, you better take care of it.....Lower Marsh Legend has a choc that doesn't have any front teeth anymore due to letting this go over the years....

Had a black female that had a real problem with hot spots. We got some topical medication from the vet to apply after clipping the hair to the skin at and around the spot (with electric clippers). We believe it helped tremendously when we put her on high quality food. Good Luck.

trawler,

mine had one and i did this.....

"boiled" it down w/ peroxide before every application of this "salve" that follows: got some benadryl cream, some neosporin, and some aloe, used equal parts of each and coated it real well...

benadryl helps any itching that may occur, neosporin for "most" superficial cuts yielding any minor infections, and the aloe helps sooth things...

it worked like a charm...gator

1st thing to do is make sure it is not fleas. Dip em or get some of that flea medicine. That will fix a lot of hot spots. Even if you don't see fleas still try it if you haven't already. Given the area of the spot it probably is fleas. Some dogs have a bad reaction to them and they start getting active around now. If that doesn't work try changing dog food Pro Plan I think makes a sensitive skin formula that Pet Smart carries for about $30 per 40lbs. Could be a food allergy. Check the ingrediants one of my dogs is allerigc to rice. A lot of dogs are allergic to mold as well. Change the type and place for bedding. Heat could also be a contributing factor. You can also have your vet allergy test them. They can then mix up and allergen series for your dog like a human who is allergic to ragweed. It is pretty expensive though. But, if all else fails and it is really bad discussr a steroid shot with your vet or look at putting them on prednisone. That will for sure clean it up. But, beware long term steroid therapy is tough on their liver.
