Another thing...
I had a Eukanuba rep tell me that the only difference between Eukanuba puppy formula and the original performance Eukanuba was the size of the kibble. He allowed the main complaint on Purina Puppy Chow was that it contained milk, which gave dogs a loose stool. I'll admit that Puppy Chow will produce a somewhat loose stool, but I think the milk is essential, and I stand by it for pups under 6 mos.

(also, all my references to Eukanuba imply the original pink bag 30%protein formula - no other IAMs product gets my consideration)

years ago, Gun Dog mag. did a unsolicited test on most of the top dollar dog foods...Science Diet, Eukanubia, Iams, and Sportsman's Choice Professional Formula (which was sold at Sam's)....what the tests showed was that Sportsman's Choice Professional formula ranked equally or better and was one percent more digestible than all the other "leaders".....After more than 10yrs of breeding, I can attest to the fact that it isn't about how much money you pay for food, it's all about the numbers....Now, Tom is a rep for that dog food, but I can assure you, if it wasn't a top quality feed, he wouldn't feed it to his or anyone elses dogs...Tom knows his stuff and I trust his judgement....now, you can ask him about his opinion between Sportsmans Choice and his feed, he'll tell you the truth.

After all of my breeding days, I can attest to a couple of things, that is, labs should deficate once a day (per my vet) as a human should.....more than that, and it is just waste....A dog can only digest a certain amount of food in 24hrs. Too much food does three things, wastes your money, causes excessive cleanup, and over taxes the dogs digestive system and coronary systems....

A puppy's bone structure and the building of such bones at a excessively high rate during the first 9 months of life is crucial for the long haul....excessive weight during these trying months causes unnecessary and costly bone structure problems for the rest of the dogs life....I believe in my opinion that alot of the hip dyspasia problems associated with labs and other large breed dogs stems from overweight problems during the crucial forming of all the joints...example- all of the bones are softer due to the fast forming/growing time, joints included....now, excessive weight on soft bone tissue, whether it's a knee or hip socket causes taxing wear at an early age that is not seen for the most part until the dog reaches it's later years, why? With the "heart and drive" of most labs, they just work through it and deal with the pain....over the years, as the drive wears out, the "wear" from the first year starts to show.....this is my opinion, I'm not a Vet or a scientist, but I have seen and been around these things for some time and have collected information over the years which I always passed on to my clients....

I don't sell dog food or dogs, but care tremendously for the entire breed....The only time that I ever switched purpously to Science Diet was when my Bitches were nursing or pregnant, and believe me, when I say that it definetely makes a difference to put a nursing mother on Science Diet Puppy formula, it does make a emense difference in the puppies over all size and health, from the coat to the belly in days.....That's the only endorsement you will ever hear me make.....other than that, I was told to stay away from Purina, due to the high content of animal hair follicles that were contained in test done on their feed.....my Vet told me that tests were done to prove that these follicles were clinically shown to cause heart problems in all types of dogs over the years....

MM, I've always assumed that Sportman's Choice (yellow bag at Sam's) and MaxNutrition (green bag at WalMart) was the same feed, and I've always fed them interchangeably.

One of the main reasons I started feeding MaxNutrition was that I could get it 24/7 at any WalMart. Invariable I run completely out of dogfood at 10pm on Sunday night.

I got to call bull$### on that one, why put anything on an animal that you would use on your self for long periods of time. Also prolong exposure to oil can cause cancer. Call your vet for the medicine, dont take your pup to the vet, all he will do is charge you more. I dont know the name of the medicine, but its basically a big tube of neosporin but with some extra medicine. As far as protein goes, feed you dog 2 scrambled eggs a day for about a week, his coat will be nice and shiny.

GC, Purina One large breed has worked best for me. And it can be found at WalMart. A lot of brands he will not eat. We get good performance out of it and one smallish, not too foul smelling stool a day.

Our puppy is at 2 stools a day. A 50% reduction would be really cool! Almost like having twice as much yard. Or something.

I tell you one food not to feed you dogs and thats ol roy. Cheap dog food, but will kill your grass when your dogs poops. Next door neighbor was feeding his that and usually went in the back yard. He always had these dead spots for about a week or two then the grass would come back. At first i thought it was a fungus or something eating the grass. Then one day the pup ventures over to my yard, and left a big steamer in the front. Bout 3 or 4 days later the grass was dieing in about a foot diameter circle. So better watch what you buying for your animals these days never know what you paying for.

I had always heard from old timers to use the motor oil on dogs with the mainge. I never had a dog with the mainge so I never did it. Someone mentioned how much a dog should crap in a day and I don't know. But, I do know normal digestion as far as from the stomach to the intestinal tract is 90% at 4hrs. In other words you eat something and 90% of it should be out of your stomach in 240 minutes. It akes about 8hrs to move through the digestive tract afterwards. Don't ask me how I know that. Just know I have a weird job. That is not really relevant here but it is sort of interesting next time you are chewing on that shoveler breast think about it :P
