First Band?

How long did it take you to kill your first band? I have been hunting 6 years and have still not killed one. Bad luck I guess.

I got my first one during a youth at the age of nine. Until this year I had a string of 5 years straight getting one,last year I got a double band $100.00 reward.
Over the last 23 years(16 years of hard hunting) I've gotten 12 bands, not off ebay either.
My father has killed alot of banded geese, but never a duck. A friend of mine from Canada hunted over 40 years and still has never gotten one even in Canada.
I'll never forget the moment I realized I killed a banded duck on any of the 12.

Last year I saw the silver flash as the dog brought it in I was pumped!! Then I looked and realized it was green? not silver? looked at the other leg and realized it was double banded.

It's just one of those things, it will happen when it happens.

My favorite memory was this year in AR. We were hunting on a miserable day near a friends house and we had his 14 year old son along. His son knocked down a banded greenhead, of course we were all excited. After the excitement died down I looked over at the boy and he was packing all his stuff up, when I asked what he was doing he said, "I got what I came for" and walked to his four wheeler and went home. Now that was classic!!

Never killed one. Perhaps one day, before I finally call it quits, I'll get one.

killed banded mallard drake on sunday 12/30/01.....had to pull check on the breast to see who killed it...no 1 steel...not no 3
my duck...

same place same partner...killed banded drake on monday 12/31/01...yea

he was not a happy camper...

2 in two days...did the same in 1996..wood duck ..then next day banded drake...

here is a good one you will have trouble believing....myself and 2 buds where hunting flooded timber in 97, the 2 buds already had their limit and had unloaded.....i had only killed 2 (good shootin huh??)....well 3 mallards came into the spread and hot $$$$ i killed a triple....as me and 1 of my friends went out to get the birds....he began to get profane as he let me know i had a band....when i picked up the 2nd drake he also was jeweled....unfortunately old hen was clean......so for all you bad shots out there...hang in there....good things can caome to those who wait...or in my case can't shoot worth a #$%^!!!!!

mount can be seen on my wall at home!!!!

hunting for long time and have killed 6 banded ducks and 1 banded canada honker!!!

Never got one...

Took my 17 year Bro-In-Law this year and he got a banded wood duck on his 3rd hunt...lucky stiff.

25 years and no band...and I really don't care. If I get one thats great...I would just be interested in the banding information.

I'm more concerned about having ducks to shoot!!!

From 1976 to 1996-no bands. First one was a wood duck drake in Delta National in '96. I have had several more since then, but never as big a rush.

I started hunting about 6 years ago and got bands #1 and #2 last year. (both on Greenheads) They make for great memories!

I got my first one last year on a flooded field. Greenheads right, I missed my limit duck and about 10 minutes later a single came in got him and he was banded didnt even think aobut it when I was wading out to get him. Funny thing though when I was going that morning I thought I wont ever kill a banded duck. What luck.... [img]images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif[/img] My usual hunting buddy, been hunting since the early 80 and hasnt got one yet. He passed on this hunt and I really got him good about it. Of course in his mind he would have killed it. Thats what eats him up. Not to mention that I'll never let him live it down hehehehhehe. 4 years ago he was hunting with a couple of other guys and had a mallard drake come inthey were going to let him shoot first and he raised up snap went his gun, shucked another shell in it, snap it went. One of the guys was watching the duck and the other one was watching him the guy watching the duck saw the band when the duck put his feet down to land and killed it. Well, I have been duck hunting for about 7 years now and have yet to kill a banded duck. The day will come......hopefully sooner than later.

Been hunting since i was about 10 (32 years),
i remember getting 2 bands back in the 1970's.
Didn't get another till last year, and got 2.
I guess they come in spurts.

after nine years I got a banded goose, and this year a guy I hunted with killed two woodie's on back to back weekends both with jewerly.

I lost six bands in the TN river several years ago and have not killed another one since. I guess that gods are punishing me for losing the prize. No bands over the last 6 years. Seen lots of ducks and seen buddies kill banded ducks just havent picked out the right ones I guess.....

Kilt a banded greenhead when i was 12, a week after choking and missing a true black mallard 3 times before my dad rolled it (he let me shoot till i was done). The band finally shut him up on the black duck.
Other band on my key chain is a banded woodie he killed last year he was alive (88 season). We flushed the woodie on the way bak in the boat, and he killed it as we pulled up, and told me to get it while out there.
Killed half a banded snow one weekend. My stuff, other guys dirt, and we both killed it. First time we hunted together too, so it was touchy how to handle it. After the weekend, I said, lets flip. Winner gets band, loser gets to keep geese. Ever clean 46 snow geese? I have. travis
