Good time to plan my Mississippi Delta hunt

Thanks for letting out-of-stater in your new site. Being from so far away, I have to plan my duck hunting well in advance. I have been hunting in Arkansas and Tennenssee but I just got an invite to hunt the Delta this coming season and have been asked to pick a time. Based on a usual year, when do you think you may have the most ducks. Also when would there be a possibly to have some Honkers scattered in with the ducks?

I would generally say as late as possible in the season, to allow more time for the migrators to get here in force. The problem with the above advice is that we do not know if MS and other southern states will get the "late season" again this year or not. I certainly hope that we can get it again.

Good luck on your trip to MS. As GulfCoast stated we really don't know about the late season. The place where I hunt goes by pressure from other areas as well as the weather. Early can be good as well as late. I would just pick a time and come unless you had the luxury of picking the days a week or two before hand, then it would depend on the weather and season dates. As far as geese, depends on where your at we do well with local birds early and get a few going south late. Get in contact with your host and go from there. Again good luck, you'll find MS is one great place.

from what i understand thru my confidential informants, the late season is on go... pretty much the same as last year... but i have seen a many CI's tell anything for a break.... the later the better... not just to harvest, but to witness....

Goat Roper, I think that is a good time to pick. I would have said sometime in mid to late January. Judge, I hope you're right about the late season MS is a lot closer to LA than TN is and I like the extra days!

I come to hunt Ms. either 2nd week of Jan or the 2nd weed of the season start in Dec. Good luck and anytime is good when you can leave home and work and get away. You can always find ducks there. You just got to scout and scout. Later
