Old call, pics added

My Grandad gave me a call about 10 yrs ago that he said his dad had. He has no idea who made it or where it came from. Do any of you know a call guru I can contact to find out about it. Not interested in getting rid of it just curious. It's a wood call with a metal reed in it. Can probably post pics later.

There are no identifiable markings on it other than the design. The reed is either copper or some kind of metal.

DUK that looks like an Olt call. I've seen them in magazines and even saw one onetime in a shadowbox with a bull sprig dead mount that also had some old paper hull shot shells with it.

It looks a little like a William Heitzman of Peoria, but not sure. I will need to get to my library at home tonite and confirm. It should be easy to name and date.

After a little research I believe your call is a Glodo style call made by Tom Turpin from Tenn. If he is the maker it is dated pre 1956. It is a great looking call and one to keep. The metal reed calls were used in the northern states before the arkansas style was developed. IF I find anything else I will get with you.

1854 Currier Print "The Duck Shoot" shows hunter with tongue pincher call.
1863 Fred Allen credited with producing the first duck call.
1870 Charles Grubbs claims to be first to sell calls on the commercial value.
1880 Fred Allen's First advertisement for call is in print.
1885 Davis Fuller patents the first goose flute.
1889 Charles Grubbs has first catalog listing for his calls.
1903 August Kuhlemeirer patents the first curved single tone board call, The Mascot.
1905 First Olt calls produced.
1909 Charles Perdew patents the first crow call.
1918 Market hunting is outlawed.
1935 Live Bird bands from baiting while hunting.
1936 First Championship calling contest held and won by Tom Welsh. Tom used only his mouth and is the only winner ever to do that..
1948 Bill Meucci's adjustable Muntone call was patented..
1954 Olt A-50 Flute Goose call introduced.

This early history is well documented in "Duck Calls An Enduring American Folk Art" by Howard Harlen and W. Crew Anderson and "Duck Calls Of Illinois 1863 - 1963" by Robert D. Christensen. Both books are outstanding and contain excellent detailed information. Most of what I know about the older calls comes from these pages. If you are interested in the more modern contemporary calls I could suggest purchasing "Custom Calls" by James C. Fleming Jr. This book deals with today’s makers and is an excellent information source for the contemporary modern day calls.

That looks like a Tom Turpin call. I believe he is from Ill. or Tenn. Real valuable and sought after. What ever yo do hold onto it and don't make any modifications.
