another odd occurence to add to the list this season.

Bluebills are all I can kill in Humphreys county. I have killed more edible ducks in the hills than I have in the Delta!

Man, you guys must of been hiding outside of our camp Friday night because we had this EXACT same discussion. We are killing the heck out of Bluebills and seeing a lot of pintails. Real close to where you guys are. Aren't bluebills and pintails numbers supposed to be declining. FYI Saturday nights heated discussion was the difference between a mottled duck and a hen mallard. Hell, we all though gadwalls were a type of mottled duck all the GW do. Broke out the ID book and got it straight. But, it was a pretty funny discussion.

If you hunt down here, you will get to know mottled ducks up close and personally. We have to educate a warden from time to time, too.

The numbers of odd birds (like bwt & bluebills) arent that particulary high, its that they are here at the wrong time. Normally theyd be in mexico and we'd have mallards. What you are seeing is ducks misplaced. A lot of the pins you've seen in last 2 weeks or so are headed back north, they left the LA gulf coast and are damn near bulletproof. travis

I have seen no blue wing teal at all, but lots of green wings. Also seeing many more pintail than in previous years and also more bluebills.

But, overall, I have seen a lot less ducks than ever before. Hope the cold up north drives more down our way.

I have seen alot of pintails, shovelers and hooded mergansers. Am I the only one seeing alot of mergansers. If I had as many mallards as I did them I would be in good shape.

Sprigs and Spooners are the birds that I have seen in the most unusual numbers. Mallards too actually. They fall into the low end of "unusual numbers" which is damn near zero.

We have been seeing a great deal more Green Wing Teal than we are used to seeing this time of year. Everything else is pretty normal except for the lack of birds in general. Ready to hunt hard these last few days and start scouting for next year!

Yep,lots of GWT are still buzzing around in the N. Delta. I killed 2 of em on Saturday. I haven't seen the bluebills, or if I did I couldn't ID em. Definately haven't killed one anyway!!
