Four Wheeler Tires

Postby mallard man » Fri Jan 18, 2002 1:05 pm

Its time for me to replace the factory tires in my yamaha big bear and I am considering a more agressive tire that will perforn well in flooded fields and in gumbo mud, but dont want to get a tire that will put a strain on my transmission. Can any of you guys help me on making the right choice.I have looked at the ITP blackwater the carslise trax max and the outlaw tires in a 26x12x10 back and 26x12x8 or 9 front. Give me your input please

Dirt Devils by GBC. They are aggressive, but not too gnarly.

I have the ITP Blackwaters on my Yamaha Warrior. They're a little pricey, but I haven't had a flat, and I've never owned a tire that could perform as well, especially in the mud. One thing, they are heavy. I could tell a big difference on the weight, especially when I loaded it, but that's because I have a lightweight bike. A friend of mine has them on his Honda Foreman, and he really likes them.

if you get same width front and back 25-9-12 they will perform better a 26 put alot of strain on the average 4 whlr. the same width allows you to only cut the mud once and the pack tires won't have to cut another 2 inches . it works we did the same on all of ours and it is alot better with 25 /9 /12 the titans 589 are good and the goodyear tires is really good!

not to totally disagree w/ no angel, b/c i do see where he is coming from; but if the front tires are a little smaller width (skinnier) than the back, the back tires will get a little better traction in ruts that were created by the front tires in deep mud, giving a little more push in deep gumbo.

i have run both titans and blackwater w/ good success, but am about to put mud bugs on my sportsman.

wouldn't go any bigger than 26".

if you want a real tire, get vampire interco's. I have them on my kodiak and man do they pull. Will go great on a bear because the tread isn't as deep as the regular vamps, but they have tread all the way to the rim for jumping out of ruts. If my bro was on here he'd praise them cause he has them on his 2000 bigbear.

Judge Me too I am going to wait until fall or late summer I just like to start getting some ideas ,and try to see how how much I am going to have to spend on this darn hobbie that we all love so much , Tires for my four wheeler and a new blind on my duck boat are two things that are for sure !!Seems like we always need somhting to spend our money on when season is out. I guess thats why I am already thinking about what all I need because i am tired of HUNTING A DUCK !(trying to find a duck) LOL!! But it will be better next year .Have a good end of season .

My tire experience is limited but I'll tell you what I know. I have Goodyear Mud Runners on the rear ofa 450 Honda ES, stock tires on the front. Too cheap to change them all the way around. The goodyears supposedly are some sort of run flat type tire. Cost about $100 apiece at Big 10. Pull well. Sling a lot of mud. Haven't got stuck in gumbo but I never got stuck w/ stock tires either. The ride a little rough until you get up a little speed. IMHO I think all the tire hoopla is overblown. If you have 4WD and tread you very rarely get stuck (I never have) BUT, they look cool
