I made mincemeat out of a Water Moccasin that was swimming across the river that I had been hunting in on Thursday. Mincemeat by boat that is. That snake made one roll and disapeared. I hate to admit it, but had it not been for the wayward "Merganeezer" who flew over, that snake would have been the only thing I killed that day. Kinda felt like Summer time.

Softcall, just in case you are wondering, that was the first "Merganeezer" that I've shot in 5 years. But things are picking up for me. I did shoot 3 Ring Necks and even whiffed on a Spoonbill hen while hunting in my local afternoon spot. WOW, They're here now!

Wildfowler, are you ashamed to publicize the quadruple shot on spoonbills that you so willingly joined on Saturday morning?

Hambone, you know I'll shoot those Greehead whanabees anytime, especially this year. The guys I hunt with in AR accuse me of shooting all the spoonbills because I so gladly pull the trigger on them.

Softcall, to set the story straight from Saturday's hunt. Hambone and I had just "done the village" on four Gwalls, when a group of 4 spoonies came by. Hambone cranked the Go-Devil to seal the deal and we shot down three of them. While the dogs were picking them up Hambone asked if we got all four of them. I said no, but here comes the last one as I raised up to shoot that Grinner Toledo Bend style. About 60 yard straight up. Learned that trick from you softcall.

Hey now - don't bash my favorite duck of the season. There aint nothing wrong with a spooney. I have grown to admire them for there positive attitude towards life. Their smile cheers me up on a sucky hunt. My paw in law and I decided to eradicate the spooney species the other day. Shot 5 hens...yes hens. That's all that flew over (plus a black jack). Annie had fun on the retrieves so that made my day. Come by for some nice shoveler stew and a cold grog. I'll be back from New York tomorrow. I would rather be in a duckless duckblind any day than up here.

Softcall, all you needed was a "Merganeezer" and you would have completed the triple crown of trash ducks in the same hunt. A feat that I have not successfully pulled off this year and I've been trying like heck to do it these past few days.

Say, I'll take you up on that grog, but when you comin' back from NY? I called your desk today, you didn't change your voice mail. That's so unlike you not to notify your constituents that you are out of the office.

I'm going back for the triple crown tomorrow morning if you want to come. Just for an hour. You too Hambone, if you want to join the squealer and me.

Nothing came down Ringneck Alley this morning, but I finally pin-ponted most of the birds that I have been listening to each morning. Jumped about 40 after picking up the decoys. I set up on them, but nothing came back. Eye contact was made with these birds. Now that they know that I know where they are staying each night. I'm sure they won't be back. Ah decisions, decisions.

Still haven't seen the Teal and "Weeguns" that I keep hearing each morning. They must be in the treetops, cause I sure can't find them anywhere.

So many holes, so little time!
