Everytime the rules are subject to reinventing there is a lot of concern. The WTO is pointing a finger at the synthetic nature of global commodities markets. In a nutshell, the payments that underwrite the cost of production are a form of economic warfare. Do you know how you corner the market on steel? Well you flood the market with cheap sources. The result is a plssing match between nations. The question becomes who can underwrite the longest...

the WTO's lawsuits and proposed changes are being prompted by nations with little or no development that are heavily burdened by the cost of competition. I had a Swiss investor tell me that European's are more scared of our agricultural power than our military. Think about it, you can live without SUVs, but try making it without bread. Controlling wealth is about controlling resources. The USA is not going to give up their position in that market by allowing our farming economies to fail under interational pressure.

Farmer's work for the money they make, it is a fact. "welfare for farmer's" is sustaining our nations ability to compete and retain a very valuable resource. But, then most people think Joe farmer is making good money and picking up an atta' boy check from the garden out back. Broke farmers driving new z71s... hey collar boy! ever tried workin' pipe in a BMW....

i am about tiered of this sh*^. All you boys who like to come to the delta and hunt better hope that nothing happens to farming. if it goes everything here will go. there is not a buisness in the delta that does not benifit from the subsities. There will be no more Smith and CO. to shop at. no more nice resturants to eat at and no bar decent enough to have a drink in. The changes in subsities will impact me directly because i farm, the rest of you sons of bitches better think about how it will affect or effect ,i dont know which one is correct, your world before you go following your fearless leader.

like i have said before what is your wife going to do when milk is $12 a gallon instead of $4.
maybe next year will be better

hell im not finished

did you know that americans spead less of there dissposible income on food than any other nation in the world. or food is cheap. that is the hole point of subsities.

i think we sould cut off those crack heads(ch) that get a crazy check each month. that would save some serious money. and that ch dosent eaven contibute anything to our economy at least my fellow farmers and i are feeding the world.
maybe next year will be better

How many of you realized that school lunch programs and food stamps are all part of agriculture policy?

To me the scare is cotton and rice being singled out versus taking a flat % cut across all programs. That way the cotton program will be effected just as much as the food stamps.

Odds are we are going to take a cut. We have to do it to balance the budget. Either that or raise taxes. I just hope it isn't that heavy of a blow.

Big Country, I was wondering who you voted for.

Your point is lost on almost every one in Mississippi. People get caught up in social issues like gay marriage and don't think about financial policies that directly affect almost everyone in Mississippi.

i grew up in bolivar county so i've been around rice and cotton my whole life.. hell i worked at Sanders seed for 4 yrs in high school and Delta & Pine through college... i appreciate the things farmers do but i don't shed a tear for no body... i've watched these farmers kids get new trucks from the time they get their license and blow money coming and going.. these farmers want to cry about cutting their money b/c they realize without the gov't check they won't be able to continue in the lifestyle.. and these farmers you talk about as being in debt.. well stop spending more than you bring in... the new vehicles and christmas ski trips... hell the farmers wives do keep the delta commerce going b/c they blow so dam much..
granted farmers work their ass off and their income is not set.. could be a good year or could be a bad year.. but ya know what.. for 6 good months you can do whatever the hell you want to do.. now that in its self is worth something.. how many of us can say we can go duck hunting 60 days of the year if we wanted.. you want to poor mouth about it but hell compare yourself to the people that aren't in the farming community.. no one hands us money, we don't get all that time off..... and a list a mile long of other perks.. don't cry that $#!+ here.. i've got farmers that i call friends and i hate to see them lose a dime and i wish they could get more, but at the same time, i don't feel a bit sorry for anyone.. and you shouldn't feel sorry for yourself... hell 90% of the farmers today didn't build that farm.. they were givn everything, all they had to do was walk into the business from family......

i know some of you will get ticked to read this but i definitely dont want to see farmers go under but at the same time i don't feel sorry for ya.. being rich or being poor ITS A LIFESTYLE.. learn to change it like the rest of us have to do
And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground-everything that has the breath of life in it, they will be your food.

Let me ask yall another question about farming, can you transfer bases from one property to another? Another for the farmers, would it be worth tieing up say 500k of your money to purchase farmland or would it be a better to lease the same property and keep the sub?

One thing to consider on that land purchase is "Will the subsidy help pay the yearly note?" That would be what I would look at versus leasing.

Most farmers have choice every fall when it comes to year end taxes. Do I pay Uncle Sam or do I take that money and buy me a new truck? That is why most farmers drive newer trucks, not because they are raping the system. Looking from the outside, it is easy to pass judgement. Most purchases towards the end of the year are management decisions that are pursuaded by accountants. Takes money to make money.

I do agree with Benny on the rediculous prices that the red and green tractor companies are charging along with transgenic seed and chemical costs. Prices remain the same or go down and input cost go up.

Support your local farmers and enjoy the great farmland that these guys take care of and allow many to hunt on. Because if the local farms go under due to a reduction in farm payments, then some investment bank out of New York will buy it and you can bet that there won't be any southern boys allowed to hunt it.
