Duck report for past weekend

Postby Meeka » Mon Jan 14, 2002 4:01 pm

Anyone have one? It is getting kinda quite, as far as duck killing goes.

Two of us had two quality hunts and we got limits of mallards. It took two of us two days to kill just over two limits! Yeah, 9 mallards for two people for the weekend. Yet and stil, I think we did much better than the other groups in that area.

I'm starting to agree that numbers are down. They were this weekend. Where we hunted will not be good again till some new ducks come in cause we killed or scared all of them. A field on Saturday and Timber on Sunday.

They can still be got, but it takes some work. I don't think these two holes had been hunted this year.

Anyone else report anything?

I saw lots of geese in the South Delta Sunday evening in one particular area.

I hunted in No Miss a couple of hours before work this morning and saw quite a few ducks. Mostly gads and mallards, but more than we've been seeing. If I can stay out of our regular hole the rest of the week the ducks might start using it again. No I didn't bag anything but it was a beutiful sunrise.

I hunted two days in the north delta. We shot poorly but saw a good number of birds. Surprisingly few mallards. I heard that the mallards were using the central flyway and the sprigs had moved east to the mississippi flyway. Strictly rumor. Never got our limit but averaged 3-4 birds per gun.

We hunted the N. Delta and saw pretty good numbers of birds. 3 guys in timber on Saturday AM killed 5 Greenheads and 7 gadwalls. 3 guys in different timber hole on Sunday killed 4 Greenheads, 8 Gadwalls and 3 Shovelers. One of the Greenheads was wearing jewelry too!!! I just happened to be the lucky one on Saturday!!

Duck report for past weekend

We killed 8 ducks Saturday AM near Morgan City. There were two of us in mummy boats and again, little or no calling and only a few decoys were used. Hunted a hole no bigger than a large pool. What's really weird is this hole is in a cotton field. We have flooded corn, beans, milo and wheat AND the ducks are in the cotton? Been a strange year. We killed 8 geese Sunday AM and no ducks. There were a few more flying, but it seems to me that we aren't going to be getting the large numbers that we're used to this year. We are interested in trying the geese. Do any of you have any suggestions? I've been on a few goose hunts in Kentucky, but don't think there's anyway to hunt them around here the way they were set up.
