worms/parasites
Hardly a season has gone by in my life that I haven't seen a duck with those parasites. DU or Wildfowl (don't remember which) did an article on it a couple of years back. Don't remember the name of the parasite though. That would be a source you could check out.

Thanks for the info on this post and damnyankee site answerd my question about this parasite. I throw them away too. down toward the end on the site it said not much was known about them but was not recommended for human consumption. I'll agree 100%

I've always heard it called "rice breast". The most common ducks that I've seen it in have been spoons. Please don't ask how many I've killed -it's been a slow year. I never eat the birds. And that is all I know.

I've been eatin 'em for years and I'm still healthy as a horse, in fact I need to loose about 20 lbs.

I've seen these ever since I've been BREASTING ducks (which I hate to do, since its illegal wanton waste). If you pick your ducks you won't be able to tell the parasites are there. Eating them unknowingly in my picked ducks not apparently stunted my growth...YET - but I can always hope!
