TN Guys

I need your help to answer a qustion for me.

Is there a law in Tn that says you have to have insurance to drive. My wife got hit by a dump truck yesterday and my insurance agent is thinking he doesn't have insurance, but we will know for sure late this afternoon.


She had to get a rental car and now we are going to have to find a way to get it home. Dont you just love life. :x

I am a insurance agent here in MS, but I do no that each state requires you to have insurance to drive a vehicle on public roads. Do you have uninsured motorist coverage on your policy?

Check to see if you insurance covers towing on your vehicle. I pay about 2 dollars a month for my vehicles and its well worth it if you get hit out of state.

weimhunter I got uninsured motorist coverage. This crap just pisses me off. The guy left a scene of the accident, had no registration on the dump truck and if he dont have insurance, all he will be cited for is for no registration. The cop took his word for it that he had insurance even though the insurance card in his truck was outdated.

P.S. A 70 year old man has no business driving a dump truck, especially if he cant even tell that he hit someone and half his load falls out at the same time.

peewee, Was this in West TN? Was it state or local law enforcement?

Yes it is against the law to drive without insurance in the State of TN. That doesn't mean that everyone has insurance though. I don't know what the punishment is but he will be cited sooner or later.

yes it is a state law you must have insurance to drive in TN. Several cities, Memphis included do have city codes in order to cite drivers and be able to collect fines, (if not a state charge ,misdemeanor will be issued and the state will collect the fines). In Memphis the fine is $300. , but rarely does a judge empose the total amount !

Yes the fine is slightly more than if your caught in Memphis with a full auto AK 74

Yes. It is called the Tennessee Financial Responsibility Law (T.C.A. 55-12-101 et. seq.)
