Hate to brag, but.......................
Had the best day of the season this morning. Set up plenty early and watched the fog roll in, where I hunt the fog helps. Several flocks working, my partner and I shot three doubles in a row before 7:30. First was a greenwing teal with a male and female. Then we took out a gadwall couple. Next was a wood duck couple (I shot the male all three times!) Except for shooting at the cripples, we were 6 for 6, then the mallards showed up. Wind switched and we moved the decoys, no fun in 15 ft of water. Driving through decoys with a trolling motor should be an Olympic event! As soon as we got back in the trees we dropped a couple of greenheads.
Heard more shooting today than any other day this year, there are definetly ducks on NW MS. Several flights of pintails whistled as they flew past, never close enough to shoot.
If you are having trouble finding ducks, look for the rest areas. After the boats in the buckbrush and fields hammer them, they fly to cover areas near open water and try to hide.
Guess who was waiting?
First time I videotaped a hunt, got some really good footage of my dog doing his thing. Maybe one day I will be able to upload it to a site to watch.
Ya'll have a good weekend and be safe.

Mixed Bag
Mixed Bag
I just returned from the NW Delta around Tunica. We saw more ducks recently than all year. And if I saw 300 pintail I saw 1. Managed to kill two of the wary gentlemen. We had a mixed bag as well with mallards, spooners, teal, gaddies, and pintail. We never shot a limit (24birds) but had a damn fine time. Just seeing birds makes it feel good.

This morning was less people, better shooting. Weather channel said winds from the south, set up accordingly. Wind ended up coming more ESE, perfect for my little hole. Saw several flocks of mallards, pintail, widgeon, teal and others. My brother shot his first whole box of shells today and then asked for some of mine. I gave him three and said "that's it".
He finished with 5 birds.
Bacon-wrapped teal sure are tasty!
