Building a hunting cabin questions

We are looking into building a cabin at the hunting place that is on the edge of a flood zone - we will have to raise by dirt or poles. Nothing too fancy but not too rustic.

Can anyone give me information as to any of this:
1. Foundation - slab v. conventional v. raised on poles - costs/advantages/etc.?
2. Can you move gumbo mud to elevate and then pour slab or need to bring in good dirt?
3. Metal building v. lumber?
4. Metal siding v. cypress v. other as for durability/price?
5. Anyone built one lately with pics and/or approximate cost/foot?
6. Any other thoughts?

Cost will depend on what equipment do you have available for site work?
Poles? Big auger (14 inch or 18 inch) on a skid steer?
Gumbo hauled in? How will you haul and do you have equipment to compact it? NOT a DOZER!
How high will you have to build it? Usually each county have a minimum ordinance (1 ft freeboard) that you will have to build above the floodplain. Do you know the elevation of the floodplain (Azone or actual base flood elevation). Most utility (electric coops) require a county floodplain development/disturbance permit before they will set an electric pole.
I would start by having a realistic idea of how this work is planned out.

Is this going to be contracted out or done by camp members?

How high do you have to build it up? I'm asking b/c I actually have several steel poles that I already had plates welded to top and bottom to build up a cabin10-12 feet off of a slab. The holes are already in the plates to bolt to slab. I have at least 15 if not 20.

I don’t know the cost or what have u but I spend a lot of time in easily flooded areas. I’d venture to say 99% of camps are built up on poles.

With that said, moving dirt in and all of that for a camp sounds like a waste of time/money. I’d use poles myself and move on along with the process.

Alternatively, you can build your camp on the ground you have and construct a levee around it. NRCS can help with the design, and you can contract it out after they draw it up.
