Re: Yazoo Backwater Pump back in the news
45,000 flowing backwards? Is that total flow?
Well... 15,000 more if pumps were running doesn’t sound so trivial to me? What is that? 33% more into the yazoo?
Am I wrong thinking about it like that?

Yes and no. It’s only flowing backward in situations that the water levels are low upstream. You’d never see high backward rates when it’s already flooded upstream.
Just think about what kinda water you’d have to be pouring into the street to back it up in the backyard.
The upper Yazoo (Gwood) floods from rainwater, not backwater flooding from the Big Muddy.

Re: Yazoo Backwater Pump back in the news
I was just trying to think about the other places between steel bayou and greenwood that po monk may have been referring to?
There’s a lot of other flood gates along the yazoo that won’t be getting any pumps.
Wonder how far upstream that extra water would go? I couldn’t find any of the “flow” data on any of the yazoo gauges. And for several weeks it “looked” like there was no current under the river bridges at both yazoo city and belzoni.
I’m not saying I think it was flat all the way to Vicksburg but it sure looked like the water was not flowing at all.
Thanks

I wouldn’t guess that the wave would make it far past the IP mill at Redwood. Maybe DR2’s Willow Break or Dixie Farms.

Ok. Who else has seen the billboards? "If you liked Kemper, you'll love the pumps." And who is the .org that is shown? After hearing all of the news lately, I would think that these guys would be left without a leg to stand on.
Nobody owes you anything.

I thought it said “drain the pumps dot org” but that doesn’t seem to do anything. So what do I know?

Likely referring to the Kemper County clean coal power plant fiasco.jacksbuddy wrote:Ok. Who else has seen the billboards? "If you liked Kemper, you'll love the pumps." Soo, do they want the pumps or not? I get the distinct impression that they do NOT want to pumps. If that's the case; Based on the news, they are barking up an empty tree, ain't they?donia wrote:...because the Beef Plant fiasco wasn't quite enough of a teaching moment for our leaders.eSJay wrote:Likely referring to the Kemper County clean coal power plant fiasco.jacksbuddy wrote:Ok. Sounds like they are opposed.jacksbuddy wrote: Soo, do they want the pumps or not? I get the distinct impression that they do NOT want to pumps. If that's the case; Based on the news, they are barking up an empty tree, ain't they?

Po Monk.
Another thing of note in the "will the pumps affect me" thread, it is of note that the Ft Pemberton gauge in Greenwood is a good 50ft +/- higher in elevation than the one at the Steel Bayou structure where the pumps would be located. It would take A LOT of water between here and there to effect us this far North.

Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)
