Perusing the MWF website, if I'm counting correctly, there are over 60 booths being left empty by the approx. 35 vendors who have pulled out, so far.....cha ching !!!

Good question. And I don't know that answer. That said, I don't see them as any kind of 'white knight' either. Personally, I am for as little regulation as possible in all areas of government. Less regulation = More freedom, as far as I am concerned. I am just saying that if they backed out of this thing, there is probably a pretty darn good reason. And that reason probably stinks as much as a nervous skunk trying to finish off a bloated gar on the side of the road, and is just as evident to everyone around. Just sayin'.stang67 wrote:Excuse me if I don’t see MDWFP as a white knight here. What’s been their history, pre-new-WMA, on the pumps issue?
Nobody owes you anything.

I did not intend to imply that any posters here were giving MDWFP more than their due credit.

I don’t know there reason for dropping out. I’ve been working the area the last 4 months and it’s just gradually got worse and worse. Why they couldn’t lift the feeding ban for thousands of deer/turkeys is beyond me. I can understand that they didn’t want to interfere with a natural disaster and all. But this whole damn thing wasn’t natural, it’s man made! Anyway, they had their reasons I’m sure.jacksbuddy wrote:Good question. And I don't know that answer. And peewee, you’re correct. It’s political. Ask anyone why Paul Ryan kicked it out the bill the year it should have past (the pumps).
I’m glad that there is some awareness being spread after 6 months.
If I don't do it, I ain't gettin nun.......So i'm doing it

Imagine New Orleans without pumps. Rain water is directed from 1/3 of the State to one area without a way to get out.stang67 wrote:Man made how?missed mallards wrote: I can understand that they didn’t want to interfere with a natural disaster and all. pretty sure he means the entire levee system and structures (Steele Bayou, etc).stang67 wrote:Man made how?missed mallards wrote: I can understand that they didn’t want to interfere with a natural disaster and all. But this whole damn thing wasn’t natural, it’s man made!

No way to get out — when MS River is already flooding. God made that situation.peewee wrote:Imagine New Orleans without pumps. This event was a perfect storm of local (state of MS) rainfall and high river levels. However, the worrisome and threatening notion is that maybe this is the new norm. It’d be ironic if that threat and the ability to pin it on climate change is the EPA’s and opposing NGOs’ way to change their stance on this issue.

Re: MS Wildlife Extravaganza Boycott
If the backwater levee had not been built to begin with, would this year’s flood have been just as bad, if not worse, in the Mississippi Delta?
If the answer to that question is “yes”, is the problem really “man-made”, or has the government simply declined to fully mitigate, or fix, the problem caused by prolonged seasonal ms river flooding?

Re: MS Wildlife Extravaganza Boycott
Right. If they’ve been holding landside higher than the river side, it’d be a surprise. So the latter.
Re: MS Wildlife Extravaganza Boycott
That is a virtually impossible argument. We are so far from anything natural it’s comical considering land use changes and drainage/flood control through the River basin. The best we can do is manage the resource to try and re-create “natural” conditions as we can best determine them. Assuming we all want to live in a developed and prosperous Country that is...
Re: MS Wildlife Extravaganza Boycott
I hear ya. But this very day, it’s the River that holds water in the backwater, not the Steele Bayou control structure. If one claims high MS River levels are “man made,” well OK, that’s not one I want to debate.
Re: MS Wildlife Extravaganza Boycott
no, the water running into and down the river is not man made, no...not arguing that one, either. like Dan says, it’s an impossible argument. the levees are man made, and not talking about just the backwater levees and Steele bayou structure...the entire system is the “man made” part in the “not a natural disaster” argument, as I see it, anyway. we built it in the name of prosperity and development the entire span of the big muddy river...it’s just really, really full!
and, yes, I understand the argument of what it would be if it were as natural as God made it to be, with no levee system.

Proud of the vendors that are sticking together to make their point. No fixing or damage control will fill that trade mart now. Obviously Phil Bryant heard the message loud and clear. Vendors saw quickly they may be black balled if they stayed..... I mean as someone said the mdwfp pulled out!!!! I would dare say the vendors left will be crazy to be there if they are die hard in the hunt world. They will be viewed as “pimps” of hunting. I am sure there will be a full list of vendors that stayed. I am sure if it’s anything but the soup and dip booth they will be in trouble. Anxious to see the turnout. I am sure clarion ledger will be all over it.dukluk wrote:Perusing the MWF website, if I'm counting correctly, there are over 60 booths being left empty by the approx. 35 vendors who have pulled out, so far.....cha ching !!!
