Oak ID please

Postby teul2 » Wed Oct 31, 2018 11:37 am

I’m the den leader for my son’s Boy Scouts den (poor decision on the parents part right?) and we have to do a community service project. So we are going to replace some of the oak trees on the street sides in Greenwood. I’d like to get the same species if possible. So can you all help ID this one for me?

I also need some help sourcing some trees to be donated if anyone has a line on that it would be much appreciated.

Looks like a red Oak to me.

Is that a branch or the whole tree we’re looking at? What does the bark look like if it’s bigger tree?

Looks like a Nuttall Oak. Should be easy to find replacements.

That's the whole tree. It's only about chest tall now. So the bark is kind of no help.
There are a couple dozen on this stretch of road that were planted by previous boy scout troops that haven't made it. So my 2nd graders are going to replace them.
